How much we pay is irrelevant. Bare steel parts develop surface rust. No dealer is going to paint every exposed bare steel part. These things are going to look like that pretty shortly after delivery anyway unless someone never drives outside. I’m not saying I like it but this is not unusual or even excessive. It’s just what steel does. Look at your brake rotors after sitting out in the rain for a couple of days. Same thing. Although hey if we can get dealers to paint these parts I’m all for it.
Didn’t say paint, said clean and undercoat, wouldn’t cost the dealer a lot but time.

Paint/undercoat, not the dealer’s problem. It would need to be done at the plant. No dealer wants that liability. Can you imagine the whining by customers? “You did it wrong!” “You missed a spot” “My control arm wont come off three yrs later because you sprayed undercoating all over the bolts”. With the way buyers whine about everything I wouldn't touch it as a dealer.
Bottom line is it’s on us to refuse the vehicle at the point of delivery or live with it. It’s not a dealer issue, it’s a manufacturing thing and I don't think they're going to spray undercoating all over everything. I do think a lot of the bare steel parts could be painted a lot better when theyre manufactured but tbh it’s the undercarriage. It's going to end up looking like that very soon anyway.

My 2010 didn't look that bad after 10 years, yours seems a little excessive. I've been spraying mine in the fall with Fluidfilm and it seems to do a pretty good job. Along with spraying the undercarriage after the snow melts and the bulk of the sand and salt is off the streets. It's one of the cheaper solutions that works reasonably well for me.

There is no way that is normal. Honestly it looks like it sat at the beach for a few months before being sold to you. The red flag to me was not the rust (although that is really bad) but the way your aluminum oil pan looks, it is very corroded. The metal oil pan is actually one of two "pans" and the aluminum part above it is not part of the engine block but rather another oil "pan" made of aluminum and it should not look like that at all.

I bought my JL new from a dealer in Melbourne. Underside was so clean & spotless that even at its 1st service/check up at 1000klms the dealer mechanics were raving about how clean it was underneath. 3 years later at almost 60,000klms & a bunch of offroading in all conditions the underside is still pretty clean & mostly rust free (tiny bit of surface rust where paint has been scratched & knocked off offroading). All in all its still clear of rust & corrosion. I think this amount of corrosion is abnormal for any new vehicle regardless of a sea voyage. Going forward just douse the underside with WD40 from time to time. Drench it! I used to do this with my Hilux & after almost 400,000klms when I sold it, it was still going strong & rust free.

that's all fine and dandy to say but I'm not getting any younger and when you already waited 11 months since i ordered it and prices are going up as fast as a jack rabbit better to get it sorted and move on, esp when it's done by the company that manages all jeep issues in Australia, plus they sent photos of the entire process as it happened. And the dealer was incredibly helpful and owned the problem (Along with JEEP AUSTRALIA) and both were totally on side with having it prepared as it should have been from the factory. And as a goodwill gesture provided a generous credit for me to spend on accessories.

I'm late to this thread but if my brand new jeep was delivered with that much rust and corrosion, I would have gone absolutely ballistic. Where did you take delivery? Fort Myers? I think that thing was partially submerged.

What's your method to spray it? That looks really good. Do you just spray at a distance. Everything in sight on the underside? lol
First, I have 4 ramps that I drive it up onto, then you can spray about 6" away from the large areas, then to be more precise you use the little red straw that comes with each can for areas you don't want overspray like by exhaust components, the small little tubing in the photo is for getting inside of the cross members or hollow areas, once you get it in a cross member you pull it out while spraying and it bombs the whole inside also, I also spay it wherever salt may sit like on the inside of my steel bumpers and so on.

hahaha No not fort Myers, Sydney Australia. I didn't go ballistic but I did enough to ensure the issue was addressed to my satisfaction after a fair bit of research.

There were 3 parties that should be held accountable. Jeep the manufacturer who should have had this car treated before it left the factory, then Jeeps quality control at the dock where they are supposed to treat any cars missed along the way prior to them being loaded on the ship, then Jeep Australia who should have picked it up on arrival and had it treated b4 releasing to the dealer them the dealer who should have picked this up as part of the service pre-delivery inspection that they charge circa $1500 to do. However, all of these parties failed miserably in doing their so-called pre-delivery checks on a very expensive product prior to it being handed over to the end user/purchaser. As mentioned in an earlier thread the dealer and Jeep Australia took responsibility and had the problem addressed.
