I am perplexed!. A brand new truck and the customer need to spray it to protect it from rust!. Shouldn't this be done at factory? Doesn't every car comes with factory rust warranty ?

I have never had do this to any of my cars, and have never heard anyone need to do this to a brand new vehicle.

Is this unique to Jeep?

Yeah, i was really disappointed and it took the edge of the excitement of getting a car I've always wanted. Thank you for the advice, the dealer had it fully redone with dry ice blasting and then recoating so it came up really well. was just curious to see if this was a common occurrence. I'm in Sydney so would've taken a while to get here plus salty roads and possible ocean spray, The rust was pretty bad so it was a rather unpleasant surprise when I found so much under the car especially when it was brand new and they are rather expensive over here. Mind you the dealer was really good about the whole thing as wereJeep Australia. They had it all sorted then gave me a nice credit to spend on accessories which was very appreciated by me.

I placed an order for a Jeep, so I can take to the beach. Now, I am worried about salt water and rust.

Again, those pictures would really, really add to this post
I feel the "Exaggerometer" may have come into play somehow
Amazing little device, takes a very small detail and inflates it to a major trauma
"undercarriage covered in rust" - ?
If true then I'd suggest bringing it back but all these guys have excellent options for you anyways (they usually do)
if you think a tiny bit of undercarriage rust is an issue then you'd best not look at your door hinges - seems many, many of those bubble up instantly :(

Always stick to the dry sand or the damp packed sand. Do not drive into the water or on sand that the surf is washing up onto. You will regret it if you do. Rust is one concern, but having the surf erode the sand out from under your tires is another, and then you will be severely stuck in a big hurry.

Fair enough and, yeah, thats quite bad
Didn't notice the Australia thing at first so we had a vehicle shipped overseas, guessing the sea mist kicked it but the dealership should have found this and treated it properly before you ever saw a thing - its just what you do in sales - if your selling new product make sure the customer sees a new product upon delivery !
Again, get her cleaned up and treat her yourself as our fellow Forum folk have shown
And... Jealous of your RHD Rubicon as our RHD's in the States are all Sport based :jk:

Select a dealership at random, and crawl under the Jeeps and compare that with other vehicles on the lot.

oops sorry, didn't see u had already looked at the pics. apparently, it cops a lot of salt from the roads when transported from the factory to the loading dock for shipment in 3winter, then the sea mist. I've been told that it should have been blasted at the dock b4 it went on the ship and then c checked when it arrived by jeep Aust and then the dealer. these 3 sop checks were all, missed. Jeep Aust and the dealer were very good about it and took full responsibility nad had it fully dry ice blasted then recoated so it came up really well.

Coming to the party late on this. The rust in the OPs pics is really not that bad. Looks like mostly just surface problems that are normal.

The body panels are made wit galvanized steel which is simply a zinc coating and that makes them naturally rust resistant. The axles where the tubs go into the pumpkin, normal. The pumpkin is cast iron most likely and the axle tube is steel. The other components underneath are rolled or stamped steel which is likely not galvanized which is why you are seeing surface rust on them. If it concerns you then wire brush, treat, and then paint. We used some stuff in the mills called zophar https://www.go2marine.com/Zophar-20-Black-Heavy-Duty-Paint to paint them and make it rust resistant. Stuff is not cheap and can probably be found for less $$ than my link but it works very well.

The exhaust looks to be stainless steel tubing which should not rust BUT seeing rust on it tells me its a low grade SS with additional iron content than most SS exhaust systems. Jeep aimed to save a few coins with that.

The heat shields I thought were aluminum based on how they look but I could be wrong. Now where aluminum and steel come into direct contact there will be a galvanic reaction that occurs and creates corrosion. You normally want to have some sort of barrier between them. Back in college I worked a summer at a semi trailer manufacturer. In a few applications we mounted a steel "skid" plate on the aluminum box and basically just lined them with a heavy clear packing tape.

any one taken possession of a brand new jeep only to get home and whilst checking it out finds the undercarriage covered in rust ??

I've been asked to attach some Pics. Please remember that this is what I saw when I got home from picking it up. I've had plenty of new cars over the years and NEVER expected to see a brand new car in this condition. Really dampening my excitement of picking it up - and yes still get excited even though im 65! :)

coat areas showing rust with ospho (rust neutralizer), and then hit it with something like rustoleum professional spray paint. etching primer it before paint if you're feeling crazy.
How is ospho different than rustoleum?

I always thought you could just spray some rustoleum over the rusty metal and that would stop it from spreading. Just wondering if I should change up what I do.
