  1. Rust everywhere

I'm late to this thread but if my brand new jeep was delivered with that much rust and corrosion, I would have gone absolutely ballistic. Where did you take delivery? Fort Myers? I think that thing was partially submerged.
  2. Exactly what is the point of a "Limited slip" rear end?

The more I think about it, the more I realize how little I understand. With anti-lock brakes, and you sitting on a flat surface, not moving in the first place, then in basic theory, when you put your foot on the brakes, no brakes are actually applied. That can't be right. What's the catch...
  3. Exactly what is the point of a "Limited slip" rear end?

I had some time and went back and watched the You Tube video. I understand now, how it's supposed to work, I think. The more force that is applied to the gears, the more they want to try to separate and so the more force is applied to the clutch packs. They ought to call it a Catch 22...
  4. Exactly what is the point of a "Limited slip" rear end?

Thank you for the reply. I am pretty sure studs are illegal in Massachusetts where I live; but I like the idea of traction boards. As for the winch, it might be an idea for me.... Although where I got stuck in the snow last time, it was a real long way to anything like a tree to attach it to...
  5. Exactly what is the point of a "Limited slip" rear end?

Well, geez, I hope it's not worn out yet. I only have 17K on it in three years! Maybe the air is a little extreme but I don't see why ice wouldn't work. Let's say that one wheel was on ice and I wanted to turn it by hand. I seriously doubt that I could do that, because even ice has some...
  6. Exactly what is the point of a "Limited slip" rear end?

Thanks very much for all the responses, some of which really took you guys some time to write. I appreciate the effort. I guess I do not have BLD, just LSD, which, it seems to me is pretty much useless unless it's in a GTO and you want to do a burnout on dry pavement. And even with BLD, the guy...
  7. Exactly what is the point of a "Limited slip" rear end?

This winter, I purposfully parked one rear wheel on dry pavement and the other rear wheel on a frozen puddle. The wheel on the puddle slipped like crazy when I tried to move. This summer, I was putting on my summer wheels and just for the heck of it, while one rear wheel was up off the ground, I...
  8. JL Wrangler Sport Manual transmission suddenly became very difficult to shift

I otherwise don't use 5th much either, unless I am on the highway and going 60 or more. Once in a while, if I go over 70, I will drop it into 6th, just to make sure it works! 6th is pretty much useless, otherwise. Don't worry, I am not lugging it.
  9. JL Wrangler Sport Manual transmission suddenly became very difficult to shift

That's right. I do that on a particular downhill stretch of my daily commute, just for a few minutes.
  10. Squeaking from rear of the vehicle moved after having been parked a few minutes

Every time I park my 2019 JL Sport for longer that maybe 10 minutes and then move it forward again, I get a loud metal-on-metal, squeaking noise, coming from the rear of the vehicle. Applying the brakes or the parking brake when this is happening has no effect, better or worse. After 10-30...
  11. JL Wrangler Sport Manual transmission suddenly became very difficult to shift

The dealer actually fixed the issue. Apparently there are two shift cables and one got tight. No reason given. They had to replace both, as a set. Other than slightly damaging my console, right where I will always see it, now it works good again. That went okay for about two or three weeks. Now...
  12. JL Wrangler Sport Manual transmission suddenly became very difficult to shift

Thanks for your response. Before I started this thread, I got under the car and looked a bit. I could only see one cable; and nobody was around to move the shifter, to see if that was the cable in question. Do you know it this cable is replaceable without the removal of the transmission? I'm a...
  13. JL Wrangler Sport Manual transmission suddenly became very difficult to shift

2019 Wrangler Sport with just under 16,000 miles, never driven off road. All started out fine one morning, on the way to work. I got up over 50 mph and shfted into 5th, no problem. When I slowed down to exit the road I was on, I attempted to drop it into 2nd and had to coast to a stop, because I...
  14. Engine studder and thottle lag anyone else having this issue

I brought mine in to fix a mirror and after that, it ran much, MUCH better. That was in May, 2021. They didn't admit until much later that they reflashed the PCM. They probably didn't admit it because I had been telling them there was something wrong with the vehicle since day two of ownership...
  15. Clutch Recall (FCA W12 | 20V-124) on 2018-2020 JL Manuals [overheating clutch pressure plate]

I do have a hand vacuum tool for bleeding brakes. I was just trying to avoid downloading a pricey manual for the thing, quite yet....The whole point of replacing my '97 TJ with this JL was so I wouldn't have to be under my car on Sunday afternoon, when all my neighbors were going off in every...
  16. Clutch Recall (FCA W12 | 20V-124) on 2018-2020 JL Manuals [overheating clutch pressure plate]

Not to seemingly change the subject but since this thread was about the clutch recall, I'm here to say I have apparently gone full circle. I had a leak in the line between the brake reservoir and the clutch control cylinder. (The first recall was supposedly done, too!) After four trips to my...
  17. 3.6L light throttle engine surge

Just brought my 2019 in yesterday for a clutch line leak. As I had mentioned before, this Jeep had had the light throttle "surge" issue since day-one, which was sometimes so bad that it would clank the whole drive line!! They told me they could do nothing about it, in those early days. Then...
  18. Recall Notice 21V-028 [1/28/21]: Manual Transmission / Clutch Overheat Covers All 2018-2021 Jeep Wranglers Produced by January 22, 2021

Man, I can say is, I am glad I am not the only one. It is kind of mind boggling to imagine how all these little but significant things made it all the way from somebody's mind, into actual production. Maybe the people to fire first are those who test drove and approved them.
  19. Recall Notice 21V-028 [1/28/21]: Manual Transmission / Clutch Overheat Covers All 2018-2021 Jeep Wranglers Produced by January 22, 2021

I would pay extra to have mine work better, too. Is putting a 4.10 into my Sport even an option? I think they did some kind of hush-hush reflash on mine; because after having a melted, manual-control mirror replaced, I had to re-establish my Bluetooth connection and the engine has run much...
  20. Recall Notice 21V-028 [1/28/21]: Manual Transmission / Clutch Overheat Covers All 2018-2021 Jeep Wranglers Produced by January 22, 2021

I agree with punkinhed 100%. I have almost 10K on mine in two years; and after driving mostly manuals for the last almost 50 years, I still can't trust myself to pull away from a stop gracefully every time, in this JL. I turned off hill start assist a long time ago and that helped; but I still...
