I see there are 2 companies where you can buy a part to eliminate the engine being cut off at stop lights. Is there one that is preferred? I have one from my GMC but you had to rip the dash apart. I am not a fan of constantly pressing the button not do I want to be changing a starter. I only think this will lead to more issues in the future. Any recommendations and place to purchase? Website discounts?

Thanks
Chris

I use and recommend the Autostop Eliminator. It costs less than the competing product. Installation is straightforward (no dash disassembly required), and the functioning has been flawless. The wiring and connectors have a factory-grade quality to them.

Both are one-trick ponies, so shopping on price makes sense here.

You can unplug the hood switch and it takes start-stop offline. But you get a dash light. Not that dash lights bother everyone. Or you can unplug in the interim, until you get a permanent solution.

Personally I use my Tazer for this function but I also use it for a bunch of other reasons too.

@Irishguy1973

Do your homework before you buy.

Most, (many) here purchased the original SmartStopStart unit, sold by forum sponsor @SmartStopStart.com .

Read here:
https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...s-the-way-it-should-have-been-designed.13946/

The SmartStopStart offering has been in use by forum member's here since 2018.. Never ever any reports of hiccups with the SmartStopStart offering!

It can be had for $99.00 and that is with free shipping... Just message forum sponsor @SmartStopStart.com and ask Steve for this price.

The SmartStopStart offering never ever hiccups.. and is easy to install.... and it has a smaller footprint then the knockoffs.

I bought the autostop eliminator because at the time smartstopstart would not ship to California. I’m not sure if that is still the case I would have preferred to support a forum sponsor but I have had absolutely no issues with the autostop eliminator.

i don’t mind being called a nitwit in advance for my opinion. Or even being awarded a laughing/mocking face for my post. 🤓

The Taser will remember the last setting of the ESS, essentially disabling it without turning on any dash lights. If you plan to do mods, bigger tires, gears etc the Taser will let you change vehicle settings to accommodate your mods. It also has a feature to enable a PIN using your cruise control buttons that will lock the brakes if the vehicle is driven or put in gear without the PIN being entered. Not a 100% anti theft device, but another layer to make it more difficult to steal your Jeep. You can check it out at www.zautomotive.com

I also have the auto stop eliminator. It is also installed on the wife's Wrangler. I have had it on a few different vehicles and never once had an issue. They have all worked flawlessly.

When you use Taser for this function, does it take out the remote start feature? I was reading the JSCAN (which is what I have) web FAQs and it takes out the remote start.

Manual transmissions don't have remote start so I have no idea.

I unplugged mine a couple of days after I picked up the Jeep nearly 4 years ago. Zero issues and it was free

My opinion, since you have a Rubi, get yourself a Tazer mini and don’t mess around with the eliminators…. Even if you can’t imagine what other uses you’d use the Tazer for, believe me, they’ll come trickling in……

I'm not surprised that there are a ton of these devices out there from US and off-shore companies, since there are a lot of newer vehicles (8-10 years or so?) that have start-stop, people hate it, and the circuit design isn't exactly rocket science. Since anyone with some circuit design knowledge can design one on their own, and I don't think this is a device that was "copied" but rather a lot of outfits saw the need, I have no problem buying any of them that are known to be quality and US made.
