I encourage more people to download JScan from the Apple or Google store and try it. It has a demo mode that allows you to make any changes you want without actually hooking it up so you can see how easy it is and learn the programming. Then when you’re ready you buy the license for $20. All in for about $65 with the cable and dongle you need.
Now I'm interested. :)
Do you have links for the exact cable and dongle that I'd need? TIA.

I don't know, maybe it's just me but other than 100% agreeing it's annoying... I don't have an issue pressing this button which seems to be right next to the all the media iPad looking thing and the radio buttons. Isn't everyone touching or pressing those?

Seriously, I don't get why this is even a thread. I turned my stop/start off a couple of years ago and my jeep remembers that setting.

Your post implies that you pressed the ESS off button and that this off setting retains its state from one cold crank of the engine to the next.

Maybe that's not the case for you. Maybe you have ESS off tech that you haven't mentioned that remembers the button's setting from one cold crank to the next. Maybe ESS is on at the button, but doesn't engage because other criteria like an amply charged Aux battery (if equipped) isn't detected.

But the button remaining in the off state from cold crank to cold crank is not its design. It is an EPA requirement that ICE automobile manufacturers default ESS to "on" with each cold crank, in addition to other criterion, in order for them to be able to report to the public the more favorable MPG ratings on the Malroney sticker that such ESS technology provides.

Per the preceding post.

Either the ESS switch in your Jeep is malfunctioning, or there is an installed device (example) that creates the memory function that you've alluded to.

That's the way it should have been set up. Oh well, $99 later mine remembers now.

I used the Tazer Mini to eliminate mine. I put a plug in eliminator from amazon on the wife's F-150. Both vehicles start on the setting they were in when shut off.

The plug in eliminators are all about the same. Here is one for $40 instead of $100.
Same, I use the Tazer Mini also. Only a few times has it forgot since I installed it in November. Otherwise no issues. And I saved a few bucks by getting a refurbished one.

I just unplugged it under the hood. I now get a warning light right next to the low tire pressure warning light. I ignore both of them. I can't think of anything worse than having the engine die when canted over at 40 degrees or so looking down at the canyon 1000' below on Cliffhanger in Moab.
Ya, it doesnt work like that in 4lo. And lights on the dash are more irritating for me than ESS. Lol.
JScan is super cheap and gets rid of that TPMS light as well. Are you running with d9fferent size tires? Jscan fixes that, as well.

I agree, pressing the button just isn't a big deal. Had to chuckle when I saw one of the posters above refer to it as a "nightmare".

. . . . It is an EPA requirement that ICE automobile manufacturers default ESS to "on" with each cold crank . . . .
This gets repeated, but not with any cite to authority. What's yours?

I think they only offered incentives but never made it a mandate. But I’m guessing you already know that.

If you go this option spring for the OBD extension cables so you can easily connect and disconnect the bypass cable.

I personally don’t leave the cables in. I guess some do but I don’t see a reason to. I’m not sure why the extension would help though, the dongle is Bluetooth.
How is it helpful?
