So, if I put in a 1' spacer, are the stock shocks still protected or have they just become the bump stop?

Maybe you are new to suspension components. But you really need to have bump stops. If you don’t you will destroy your shocks, if that is your compressed limiter. Shocks fully compressed is bad. The bumps saves your shocks. Add bumps to stop your shocks from blowing up.

Maybe you are unaware of my setup and build. I cycled the suspension without the springs. Upper jounce makes contact and compresses before the shock completely compresses.

Craiger was/is correct. A one inch spacer from Teraflex pretty much solves this problem. I just installed it and gained about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches of bump stop space. Shock length is also 1.5” longer now. I just took all the bumps/dips around town that I’d bottom out on and it was just fine.

Am I still going to waste 5 grand and put a 3 inch lift on and some remote reservoir shocks…..yes. I want better flex on the trails.

Item number from Teraflex for the spacers is 1155100.

I am sorry but you shouldn’t have to spend any money to fix a Jeep that cost you over 60 grand. That’s crazy

I replaced the shocks, if you don’t, you are still going to limit your flex. I’m running with no bump.

Edit: which is exactly what I did. Install lift, left out the bump stop extensions. Except you got a nicer lift

I assume you meant one inch (1") spacer: yes the shocks will still be protected.

A one foot (1') spacer might fit, but the springs would likely be in coil bind.

Much more sense. more bump would be needed on an XR to go to 37s from 35s…. But sticking with 35s no additional bump should be required.

No. Zero extra bump required for 37s. Well except that the tire will barely rub the rear inner fender.

Adding a 3/4 spacer just about does the trick. Even at full stuff while it will rub its not really an issue.

Zero issues up front. I think the bump as is will even be ok with 37s maybe even 39 with gutted fenders.

You are correct. I can see how my verbiage could cause some confusion. I realize being female makes me inherently crazy…..but I’m not insane enough to completely remove the jounce tubes ?

Are these upgrades being made on a 100% stock XR? I'm concerned that my stock Jeep requires additional parts immediately; I prefer to keep stock for a while.

Is weight going to be a problem if installing rock slide steps?
no wheeling just driving around town.

I’m pretty disappointed with the amount of sag from adding weight on my XR package, 2022 JLU High Tide. I took some measurements before adding my bumper, winch, and rock slide engineering steps plus adding recovery equipment, tools, etc… in the back (I wish I had taken weight measurements at each axle too).

I ended up losing about 7/8” in the front and 1/2” in the rear. And don’t have much travel left before hitting the bump stops. I don’t drive much and have only about 500 miles on this setup (800 miles total) but have bottomed out twice already.

I thinking spacers are necessary to get me back up but I guess would only be a temporary solution as I’d still like to add some skids and lights. I was really hoping the XR package would be enough so I could have a very capable Jeep from the factory with warranty given the cost.

I guess eventually I’m looking at a ~3” lift and dropping a few thousand, argh!!!!

XR owners be like - this is the nicest plushest riding Jeep.. And then be bothered by the bump stop stuff.

A low cg, plush spring setup is going to ride well. For increasing flex off road, the tribute has to be paid in terms of one of these
- replace to longer stroke fox shocks, remove bump stop bottom
- add 1" teraflex spring spacer
- replace stock spring with Synergy 1" or Clayton 1.5" springs, remove bottom bump stop

I'm sure everyone who said this is 100% correct. But can someone help explain to me how this works.

The 1" spacer will give me more up travel, but take away the exact same amount of droop, so I'm just trading droop for up travel, which sounds like a good deal.

But if I put 37"s on the jeep, how do the 37's, with no 1" spacer, give me more uptravel ?

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it. .

I for one did not order the XR because it rides plush. Honestly, haven't even driven one yet. I ordered it for the potential capabilities and upgraded components out of the box. I thought springs/lift might be in the future if I decided to run 37s. Now to see stock springs can't even handle a bumper and winch w/o major sagging is very disappointing. Was looking forward to other upgrades before upgrading the suspension.
