oh its 10x better, so much more aggressive and mean looking
Um, not quite sure I'd personally give it 10x rating. Here's my stock Rubicon and than with 315/70-17’s and an actual 2" lift (ignore the chopped front fenders). Pretty much the xr and than some, when it comes to beefed up suspension and steering...

Definitely better looking and a bit more capable, but still relatively mild, and this is coming from the guy who paid for and installed everything. It's a great setup for those looking for a bit more right out of the gate.

This is what I would consider 10x better, and more mean and aggressive looking...

It really just boils down to each individual and their specific use case.

I'll take you up on that if I win. We can work in my garage, I have a lift.
Well NOW you tell me! Would have been good to know that for my lifts... ; )

Why is everyone so sure that 1/2 to 3/4 inch of up travel is such a problem? As already mentioned, they are there to keep the tires out of the fenders.

Mine rides great so far on the street. Haven't hit the bump stops yet, and I've driven some pretty rough roads. Also have the steel bumper group and Warn Zeon 10S Platinum (heavy) Winch.

I suppose if you're putting on a 150 lb aftermarket front bumper and then a winch, then I could see it.

Genuinely curious if people are just seeing the gap and assuming there is an issue, or are you encountering problems in day to day usage?

I don’t have an XR, I have a diesel (which has the same jounce tube). I also installed a lift within weeks of picking it up BUT the kit included bump stop extensions that were designed for the shorter jounce tubes.

So my resulting ~1” of up travel with the lift was still better than it was stock and I was bottoming out on the occasional pothole or speed bump.

The final straw for me was in Moab though when I had to go unreasonably slow over bumpy sections and was slowing down the group. When I got home I took the bump extensions out and now the springs and shocks handle bumps like they should.

Side note: I have the same size tires as the XR and these pics are with the springs out checking clearance. Not only to ensure I’m not going to hit the fenders but not bottom out the shocks. With only the (long) factory jounce tubes you can see there is plenty of clearance for the tire, and 37”s would probably also fit without any additional bump.

Trust me, if you add weight and have 1/8 of an inch of bump stop clearance it’s an issue.

In the Safeway parking lot yesterday at 4 miles an hours I hit a speed bump and the jarring impact was very uncomfortable. I even bottom out in my paved neighborhood turning onto my street.

Last week I did a blue trail from Breckenridge to Montezuma and although the jeep made it easily, I came down hard at least a dozen times. It was uncomfortable! This is a real issue if you use your Jeep as designed. If it’s a city car and you don’t modify anything your probably just fine.

I looked at my front springs and didn't see any tags with part numbers..... but I did notice that my front bump jounce is very close to touching in the front just parked in my driveway. However I am not experiencing the bottoming out that others here are. Last Friday I ran 2 red trails outside of Montezuma (Red Cone & Radical Hill) and I was moving at a pretty decent clip according to folks I was with. I had no issues of bottoming out on bumps and there are quite a few bumps along these trails (also quickly ran two green trails to connect, Webster pass and Deer creek).
I do have an aftermarket front bumper and winch but my bumper is only 35 lbs (Rockhard4x4 aluminum) and I made sure the warn evo 8S winch had synthetic rope to keep weight as low as possible.
I still have plastic rear bumper but I also added under carriage aluminum skid plates and my XR drives like a dream.
I certainly am nervous when I see how little room is between the bump and jounce in the front but in the real world, it hasn’t seemed to limit my use or cause any bottoming out concerns.
Now I have a feeling if I loaded this Jeep up with gear and a roof top tent and carried another person or two along with me that I would be bottoming out ?

Nice rig! We have a similar setup but I went steel skids which weigh significantly more.

The factory setup limited flex. As I started to wheel more aggressively I wanted more flex. Added a RK 2.5” lift and the flex improved a lot.

First pic….top is factory, bottom is after the lift

dude, nice rig to you! Love Sarge Green JL’s! We should go wheelin’ one of these days!
I have to drive out to Los Angeles this weekend and help my son move but I’ll be back mid-Sept and planning to go run Middle fork Swan River to Deer creek, then up Webster to Radical hill and Saints John to Montezuma. Love those trails between Breck and Montezuma!!

I wonder, if the XR is ordered with the steel bumpers are the springs changed for the additional weight over the front?
Yes they adjusted them for the extra weight

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
I have the tow package and mine sags Honestly Jeep should recall and fix this. It seems a lot of us got the XR so we didn't have to get a lift shocks etc.. They should expect 90% of XRs will get a new bumper and or winch. It's irritating BTW That Yellow High Tide looks AMAZING!
Huh? It's not in need of a "fix", or a recall. It's designed that way.

What they should recall are swimming pools. Everyone I know that goes swimming, gets all wet!
