I get your point, but why lose .01% of lubrication if you can keep it at 0%? Over 200k miles, you lose (insert math here) lubrication total.
Again, data matters. What if losing 0.01% is statistically insignificant? You end up throwing away savings in fuel (depending on your driving habits) for an insignificant reduction in wear. Maybe. But none of us really know at this point.

You know that's not actually PTSD though, right? Lol.
1. I’m married to a VA psychiatrist 24 1/2 years.
2. You never owned a ‘77 Civic that wouldn’t start in the rain.
3. Joke my brother. Sorry if you suffer. Ask me about camping out in my flooded house after Katrina.

Like some others, I too chose the Tazer. I use it for several things, but if disabling the ESS was its only function, I still would have bought it, in fact I would’ve paid double for it…… I hate the ESS …..

I couldn’t get used to it shutting off, made me go into survival mode every time…. You know, you start looking for the easiest solution to get it out of the middle of the road, shit like that, lol….

I tried to train myself to use the button, but eventually I would forget and bam, back to survival mode, lol…. Drove me crazy ? …. I haven’t pushed that stupid button in 4.5 years…lol…I also yanked out that stupid lawnmower battery and went to one good yellow top battery, like god intended, but you’ll get to that later….…..?

I pushed the button to disable each and every time for about 2 years before finally breaking down and getting a Tazer. My recommendation: Get the Tazer.

I second the easy disconnect from the aux battery (neg. terminal cable) and pulling the f42 fuse. Took 5 minutes and no issues. Let the old aux die and just left it in its place. Easily reinstalled for warranty work if necessary.

I am very pro Tazer JL as most long timers here know. Regardless, I do feel the Tazer JL is overkill for many and also an adjunct that many guys/gals will get into real trouble with so to speak... as they are not Tazer JL aware/savvy enough ... and or take the time to unmary when needed, etc..

Especially if all a guy or gal wants is something in essence to do the ESS button push for them, they should forget the ideal of going with a Tazer JL and just go with the proven SmartStopStart.com offering.. NO, I would not install similar elcheapo units found on Amazon as they hiccup and can become problematic.

As someone that probably bypassed the JL aux battery long long before most anyone (over 78,000+ miles and say 4+ yrs, ago, I agree with the comments in this post about leaving the Aux battery in place...

I do feel for most guys and gals, they are better off bypassing the aux battery and just leaving it in place.. Use it as a backup battery to the Main or just leave it be... let it rest in piece. Don't waste time, etc. deleting it.

Reality is, there is no reason really to actually delete the aux battery. Why bastardize a vehicle that has a warranty or that's resale value will be negatively impacted. And... you also have a vehicle that say a factory tech will be hesitant to work on, bill you more $ to work on and more.

Anyway, other then to shed say 4 or 5 lbs. there is really little reason to bother deleting the aux battery.

In less then 5 min. you can bypass the JL's aux battery and be done with it. Drive that now, single battery JL like your old TJ, JK, your old Chevy with their single battery. Yes, you still need to maintain that single battery....

As a car guy I hate the start stop.
As an old engineer I wonder how we ever came to this.
Our last Jeep (2019 JLU) sat a little over a week and wouldn't start. Needed to call a wrecker and he spent a long time jump starting it. Can't imagine how that's good.

Start/stop may save you
a gallon a year or maybe even two gallons
I can afford that
One of the studies I saw suggested 7-9% fuel savings. But they were surveying data for a bunch of different cars and I don't believe the JL Wrangler even existed when that study was done. I think a proper car with a belt-start-generator and battery to handle shutting off the engine during every stop might be able to save that much gas.

I don't think the JL wrangler 3.6 ESS can save 7-9% lol. Maybe 1%.

Given how rarely the engine would shut off when mine had fresh fully charged batteries, I don't think there would be any worry about engine wear, either.

It won't save any fuel. Im boring and drive the same route every day 99% of the time. Same time of day, same route, same temps, same same same. Same fuels, same driving conditions, road conditions, same traffic, stop signs and red lights. For over a year I didn't touch the start/stop button, let the Etorque do its thing. Ha why not, im not an engineer. It's barely noticeable. Then I decided to start hitting the button on every trip (you know maybe start/stop is creating extra wear on engine internals). Have done this for over another year. Same exact miles per gallon average since day one. Never changes. So in my experience it saves no fuel. Didn't really believed it would to begin with. But, extra wear, I think that's more plausible.

My original theory was they did it to reduce idle emissions. But hardly any of the documentation out there for encouraging this actually mentions it.

And a partial zero-emissions vehicle isn't going to be producing much at a red light anyway. The tire and brake dust will be a bigger problem. And then the added weight and material just makes those things worse lol.

Like I'm all for emissions controls and helping the environment but this one aint it chief.

I also think fining companies when a maintained engine fails under like 100-150k miles would be a good start. Keeping cars out of the scrap yard would do more for the environment than a lot of the other crap. I can't believe someone thought a 200hp 3 cylinder engine with 2 turbochargers was a good idea lol.

How is that better than either getting used to it, hitting the button or disabling it properly? Lol

I tried the OP method when we first got our 2019 Wrangler. For me the problem was, life. I get so busy doing so many different things at once that when I hopped in the Jeep, with other stuff occupying my brain, I occasionally forgot to turn off the stop/start, and I hated the engine dying at the first stop sign or traffic light. So I got one of those "disablizers" and have not looked back. I love it. Never have to touch a thing, just hop in the Jeep and go.

Best,
-Tim
