I've been reading this forum daily since I put a deposit down on the new 2024 Rubicon X 2D 3.6, and I notice a lot of issues with the start/stop system. This is a feature I don't happen to like at all anyway, and I certainly do not want to invite future battery or electrical issues, or to put unnecessary wear in the engine continually starting. I've read about getting devices to permanently turn the feature off by remembering the last setting (off) on start up.
My idea is this: after hitting the start button to fire the old girl up, immediately and habitually turn off the Start/Stop feature. I am the sole driver. If I forget, I hit the button to disable when it turns off, reminding me (which rarely happens after the first few days of driving) that I hadn't done it yet. Seems to me it serves the same roll as an alteration, without fidgeting with the electronics or programming at all.
Anyone else following this plan? Is there something I am missing by making a semi-permanent solution with reprogramming, etc?

I think your idea is sound. Personally, with eTorque, I don't mind it a bit. I do think that your method is way better than . . . . "I screwed with my Jeeps electrical system/computer and now it's broke".

I personify old-timey. I have an old Smith-Corona wired to a Commodore 64 to reach a BBS that relays my posts to the forum. By messenger pigeon.
That is almost perfect.

I am too lazy for about anything much less pushing an extra button. Tazer does all my work for me especially on the TRX. I mean, I can't be expected to start the car, pick the mode I want to drive in, which is always SPORT, and then put it in gear,

This is what I already do everytime I get in my Jeep. I used to have a Tazer but I think those cause more issues than actually fix.

The problem isn't so much the start/stop, but rather the nightmare charging system that seems to be that of an 8th grade science project. It is quite an embarrassing engineering design. Everytime I drive my Jeep I fear I will be left stranded by Batteries that may or may not crank.

As others have said, the factory batteries suck. Even if you don't use ESS.

But as an avid user of Start/Stop, I can say that when it suddenly stops working, that's an indicator that one or both batteries are bad.

I turn the ESS off every time, however I frequently use my Noco genius 10 to maintain the batteries. I have less than 10k miles on my 2020, so whenever its going to sit for a few days or more, I make sure its on the battery tender. My batteries are over 3 years old now, and the ESS still works. (I check it once in a while)

Im sure the battery tender is why my batteries are still good, not because I turn off the ESS.

Does your new Jeep have e-torque?

You could do like I did. Simply unplug the connector to the hood plunger switch and forget about it.
Yeah, I do get a tone and the light comes on as soon as the Jeep hits about 25mph once after each start but I’m not a baby and worry and can live with that.
My Jeep’s 3 years old and the original battery still tests 100% capacity

...I certainly do not want to invite future battery or electrical issues...
Then in my opinion only @Bob Burd and @UniqueUserName answered this concern of yours correctly before this post. Disabling ESS won't take the problematic ESS battery out of the electrical schematic of the vehicle. Ways of doing so though exist and I can dig up links if you're interested.

...or to put unnecessary wear in the engine continually starting.
This portion of your concern will be addressed by disabling ESS.

No, not an e-torque

Thanks, but it’s cool. I’m not going to fix a problem I’m not having… yet.

In that case I would do whatever it takes to remove/disable that smaller battery. A proper dual battery setup would be my first choice, second would be to remove the smaller battery from the system and disable start/stop.
Whoever thought it was a good idea to pair to completely different batteries together should rethink their career choice.
