Need some shock advice, please.

This is where it can get a little confusing, lol.

And nobody takes this the wrong way because I really appreciate all the feedback from you more experienced jeepers. It's why I ask because I don't know.

So do I need the 2 to 3" or the 3 to 4"?

I would think the 2 to 3" would be fine with a 1.5" lift on a sport. But Roky maybe is thinking a little wiggle room?

Clayton recommends the 2-3" version Fox shocks with their 1.5" lift. It really comes down to the min compressed length of the shock and it varies by manufacturer. The 2-3" fox shocks are only 0.75" off the stock Rubicon shocks compressed length. Hence they are ok to go on 1.5" of lift on any JLU Rubicon or not.

Using that, here's some info to support @Roky and @GrayWolf.Overland's recommendations with the Fox 2.0 IFPs.

With your bump at 2" you need compressed length under 18.25" up front, so all three versions work fine there. Then it's up to you how much flex you want. You can simply look at extended length for that. The 0-1.5s are basically the same as your Rubi shocks with extensions. The 2-3 gains you another half inch, and the 3.5-4 gains you another 2" on top of that.

So while they all accomplish the same thing, you'll gain the most flex out of the longer set.

Northridge ended up the cheapest, and we're great and very helpful. So big thanks to them also.

So I got the front and rear Fox 2.0 IFP shocks and Northridge helped me out on the cost of a pair of the roost for the rear shocks, which I thought would be a good idea since the wife and I will be heading back out west around the tombstone area, and as we know there is nothing but rocks out there. So a little added protection.

Either way, next time you flex out, take a look at the drooped tire out back and make sure the sway bar isn't hitting the shock. Not a big deal, easy fix.

I have 2021 JLUW sport. Came with the Rubicon shocks.

A full lift will come later. Something like the Clayton 1.5 overland. But, right now I need shocks, two are leaking. I'm not upset because I have wheeled the piss out of my jeep this last year. It's just time for an upgrade.

I am on a 2" spacer lift currently, so someone correct me here, but I believe I just need stock size/travel shocks.

2 questions.

Can I get shocks that will work with the Clayton (or other 1.5" lift) now?
Then I won't need shocks later when I get the lift. Which will actually be around 2"s of lift on my sport.

Second question.

What shocks would some of you recommend. My budget is between $600 to $800 dollars.

There is just so many. Bilstein,fox,king,falcon,etc.

When I had my shop and I built jeeps, that’s the shock I put on. This is not to say that your foxes and King and all those are not a good shock. Not at all, absolutely they’re a good shock so is Rancho nine XL I’ve converted a lot of folks whatever it’s worth.

So if you want good shocks, then you can either get Ranchos or you can go with the shocks that are cool and good…. It’s your wallet it’s your jeep. You’re the one that has to make the choice and I will back you anything that you choose. I’ll never put a man down or choosing every day brand versus the high dollar brand.

I agree with you. I looked hard at the Rancho RS9000XLs and I don't think there is a dam thing wrong with them. In fact I don't think there is a dam thing wrong with Rancho products at all.

They are one of, if not the oldest suspension mfg there in America.

What swayed me towards the fox shocks was, one, I don't think I can go wrong the fox either. It's what is recommended for the lift I am looking at. Yes they were a little more $. Roughly $200.

I think both could be used with multiple lifts and be ok.

But also the fox shocks you can rebuild. Not sure about rancho.

Anyway, I will give the fox shocks a try, see what happens.

I have used the fox and the rancho on the Clayton lift. You will be happy with either choice. Be sure to check the label locations of your springs before you install them. The left and right rears are different and if you switch them you'll have a very pronounced lean. I think it's referred to now as an "18k Vegas Tilt"

Did you mean location of the shocks? You said springs?
