My v6 is eTorque which considerably increases torque when starting out. If you are happy with your diesel, don't pay attention to what I say.
I've driven almost every 6 cylinder that Jeep put in a Wrangler and all the transmissions, but the newest 6spd manual. But never the eTorque, would of liked to have test drive one before they were done, just to see how they felt off the line. I know the regular V6 with auto feels anemic compared to the diesel.

You mean... So much torque they needed to limit it in the first few gears, even with the taller gearing?
They did that?
Yep, with the diesel. Atleast they didn't force us into full time 4wd and give us clutches in the transfercase that wear out all the time like the 392.

The 4xe has similar torque numbers. Did they do something similar there?

if memory serves, int 4xe they limited torque while in 2WD, forcing you to engage 4WD if you want the full acceleration the powertrain is capable of.

In my opinion, it's the single thing the 4xe does better than the 392!

I've seen a few videos of 0-60 and drag races that would support this.
There is a programmer that let's the diesel use all the torque from the start. I believe Tazer makes it, but not sure.

The best V6 ever made was the Buick 3800. It derived from the Buick 225 Fireball V6, that served as the Dauntless, in Jeep CJ5/CJ6 models from 1966 to 1971. Stellantis should re-engineer that V6, or buy the tooling from GM if is still exists.

Another great V6 was/is the GM 4.3. Originally derived from the Small Block Chevy V8, with the new version derived from the LT series V8s. Great engines with excellent reliability and decent power.

Stellantis, now that Hemi tooling has been moved form Mexico to the US, could develop a new V6 based on Hemi tooling. With a displacement of 4.0-4.5 liters, it would be an excellent powerplant for the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Durango and Half ton trucks. While the 3.6 has an overall good record, it doesn't seem to be ageing well. Could Stellantis clean up the design and improve it? Absolutely. But they seem to be allowing it to die a slow death.

In my opinion the 2.0 was likely slated to replace it, but Jeep didn't want it to be the only engine choice, as many people still have an adverse opinion of turbo engines. And, at the advent of the JL, manual transmissions were more popular than they are today. The 2.0 was never offered with a manual.

I'm not sure everyone gets your sarcasm.
This thread ended up going a different direction than I thought. I was really just here waiting for the typical 2.0/3.6 dead horse gif, but it seems that battle has a temporary truce due to the inclusion of the diesel summoning term "v6" in the thread title... Makes me wonder what would have happened if it was named "A better 3.6"

Either way we all know the best "Jeep" V6 is the Dauntless.

The best v6... that made well less than 200hp. It's like the 4.0L nostalgia. Like everyone forgot struggling to maintain freeway speed going up I80 towards the rubicon in those old Jeeps. Even the 04 rubicon was a dog on 35s, especially with the top off. I'll take the v6 that will still roll 90mph all day on 39s and stock gears thanks. Would the dauntless outlast the pentastar? Maybe, but like Toyota boring and underpowered contributes to longevity. Pass.

Dauntless, maybe, but not the GM 3800 that lived on...

The 3800 was making 200hp in the Series II generation. 260hp out of a Series III with a factory supercharger.

Not that those numbers aren't woefully low by today's standards for that kind of displacement NA or otherwise, but those numbers were impressive into the early 2000's.

I like to think of GM's 3.6 as its successor, and a worthy one at that. The later iterations...a 3.6 I actually like!
