Good lord, this thread is a crazy thing to see - looks like the issue is spanning JLUs from the last 5 or so years. Wonder if the 2 doors are susceptible...
Ah, great... I certainly hope not... I'm fixin' to replace tie rod & drag link this weekend & now I have this to look for?

I mean, you'd be bored if it weren't for Jeep giving you the opportunity to fix stuff all the time, right?

Well, I'll have to admit... I kinda enjoy it sometimes. ;)

It’s the gift that keeps on giving ?

As for weighing it…no. I do tow and wheel it pretty good so I have no doubt the crappy welds and stress I put it through caused the issue. I needed to truss my rear axle anyway so this moved up that timeline.

I had a very limited time in the shop to get it done (yeah I could have added more welds... ). I have a couple of trips coming up so I'll keep and eye on it.
If I see any deviation in it we're going to lift the body and remake them.
We took a scan of the buckets to make them in cad, so I wont be surprised if we just go ahead and go that route anyway.
You did a very real nice job fixing that. I basically got my ideas from your photos which I appreciate btw along with a few others. I have severe RA in my spine so if I tear something apart to fix it, it has to be a onetime shot for me, so I tend to over engineer things. With your new welds there's a good chance that's all it needed, it may very well last forever.

Great job! ?

Thanks mate.

well I went out and beat on her this weekend. Can confirm that’s there’s no additional cracks.

Two of my buddies with JLURD both have similar cracks. We have a 2021 JLURD with 40k miles and I haven't seen cracks yet. We wheel it and tow an off road trailer.

Out of curiosity, any of you folks who've had your mounts crack the welds weighed your Jeeps? Obviously the welds should've held, but curious if it's vehicle weight or something that's the big contributing factor.
I've been thinking the same thing... haven't seen any 2-doors with this yet.

I think I noticed a trend: most seem to be happening on the passenger side, which happens to be right next to the track bar bracket. The forces on the track bar could try to pull the frame apart horizontally, getting the crack started.

If correct, Synergy's bolt-on brace might help prevent this. https://www.synergymfg.com/synergy-jeep-jl-rear-track-bar-brace.html

Grrr....well, of course I had to check mine and yep, there's a hairline crack on the drivers side. Thankfully it's not pulled away from the frame and it's only an inch long.

For those that did the repair, did you have to remove the rear track bar or anything else to get enough access for a welder? I looked real quick before work this morning and didn't look long enough to see what might be in the way. I was hoping to jack up the rear to get some separation from the axle and frame so I could squeeze up in their with my welder.

Repair is done. My shop said they have seen this happen on a few rigs and it doesn’t seem to matter if you wheel it or run a heavy load out. Mainly determined on if the welds were crap from the factory.

That looks like a good repair, did they give you any grief welding the frame?
