1. Aluminium
2. Does not corrode
Of course aluminum corrodes (not rust). Just by a nice set of unprotected aluminum wheels and drive them in a winter "salt zone" for a season or two.....

Yes, aluminum corrodes. No, it doesn't do it like rust. It is surface corrosion, mainly. You typically don't see aluminum bodied vehicles (like Land Rovers) with holes in them from aluminum corrosion.

And certainly, your engine won't suffer more corrosion from this cosmetic lid being taken off.

So someone please describe how the sound changes without it? Is it pleasant? Unpleasant? Grating? A throaty sound? Just curious. I may take mine off just to see.

Somewhere around here a guy painted his engine cover body color. While I wouldn't say it looked great, I do think it looked much better, at least to me.

I don't think it looks bad, but plastic engine parts are historically a bad idea. If they made it out of aluminum, we would all be showing it off.

I took mine off to mount the ARB single compressor onto the bracket that holds the front left corner of the cover. I haven't noticed any difference in the sound without the cover.

Maybe with carbon fiber and a viewing window on the hood.

Funny how this crap starts up top and wanders its way down.

I removed mine a while back. It provided a perfect mounting location for the single ARB compressor. To echo others, I believe it looks better, it serves no functional purpose. It's now wall art in the garage.
