OP: did your Jeep come with the hood cutout for the Mopar Cold Air Intake?

I was at the dealer yesterday and one of the guys said he had the hood passthrough intake if I wanted it for free. We walked over to my Jeep to see if it had the cutout, but it did not. Even so, I wouldn't want it to interfere with the "Rubicon" decal on the hood. I think he was in the same boat which is why he offered it to me. I don't plan to do anything really crazy while wheeling. The CAI option was just for shits and giggles. Love the sound.

Yeah, I’m thinking of getting it just for the sound as well, but I don’t want to cut a hole through my hood.

Good to know the cutout is optional.

This has come up several times and I personally don't care that it's gone. My question is did the cover keep mud or other debris off something important on the engine? May seem like a crazy question but I kept getting mud deep inside of various nooks and crannies after a glorious day of Jeeping the training areas. I'm asking because I'm waiting on a '23 to be delivered after selling my '18 last year. Just wondering if anyone has any practical experience with this?

Thanks!
On the JK's and GC's the cover was intended to help deaden the sound of the engine. The cover has a sound absorbing foam material on the underside of it.
Assuming the cover on the JL's engines serves the same purpose.

Just prepare your fuel mileage go down…. You’ll be driving it harder to invoke that beautiful intake music! LOL

Oh, Geez. I don’t need that!

I’m getting 14 MPG around town already!

The engine covers on the 3.6L's only cover about 1/2 of the engine as it is.
Seems almost pointless.

It's funny actually, my Jeep came with mine when I bought it in February of this year. Went for a complimentary oil change in September and when I looked under the hood at home, it was not put back on. I left an email with the dealership and a review about it, however I never ended up getting it back. It is what it is, I'll bring it up on the next service but I don't really find it a big deal that it's not there anymore. However, it does bother me that I "used" to have it and now I don't because it was either forgot to be put back on or taken for whatever reason.

I took mine off when I installed my catch can.I occasionally wipe the engine down, so it was just in the way.

But why would they even need to remove the engine cover just to change your oil??

It's not at all necessary or even in the way, unless the guy was a complete moron. Sounds like somebody intentionally stole it

Yeah, I wanted to take the high rode and not play the blame game, if they stole it then it's on them. If it's the case then lesson learned, plenty of Jeep dealerships within 20 km of me, so I have no issue going elsewhere. Let's see what they say when I go in for my next service.

Did they forget to put mine on or is this a cost saving feature for 2023? I prefer without it personally. Just curious for those who are receiving their orders and what they have.

I just realized that my engine cover is missing also! I'm relieved that everyone else doesn't have it either, I felt cheated! But who needs it anyway...

There's a cover on the 2.0T in my JLU, and I'm glad for it. The plethora of pipes, cables, sensors and wires that reside under the cover looks like an absolute crap show. The same on the Pentastar looks pretty tidy in comparison.

I used to poke fun at plastic engine covers, but like Greta's face, some things are indeed better when we don't have to see them.

Mine is missing also. I called the dealer. They said I can't even order one. They aren't being used any longer.
