Until recently on here it became noted that the new 21 JL's do not have the insulated/plastic engine cover...including mine.

My curiosity sent me down a rabbit hole of youtube vids on the subject (trapping heat, air flow, useless accessory, sound insulation, hides problems when on, etc etc)

Does anyone here specific to our jeeps have any useful input - is it worth me getting one from Ebay for any reason other than just looks. I dont have the turbo engine where summer hot air trapped would REALLY affect the performance - so if losing a few HP when its 100 degrees out im not concerned about.

The reason i ask is i have the factory Hood American flag decal, and i was wondering if the lack of insulated cover would ruin the decal above in the summer heat + hot engine. Are there hoses, conduits, wires etc in that area that get brittle after higher milage under the cover for anyone?

thanks in advance.

Happy New Year!!!!!

You shouldn’t have any issues at all running with out it. I had an 04 ram with the 5.7L that I Had removed all the plastic once I installed a cold air intake. Raced a lot of people and ran long distances with high speeds and never had an issue due the the removed engine dress up cover.

Decreased transmission of valve train noise to the cabin is the only engine cover function I’ve bought into. Maybe the recent models upgrading the radio is connected to the missing engine cover…

Are you talking about the useless flimsy plastic cover that is bolted on to the engine or the useless felt liner attached to the underside of the hood?

From my understanding both are useless and for cosmetic purposes only

A downfall to Stellantis as a company? Maybe, but it won't be for retiring the engine cover of the 3.6 V6.

Ford did close to the same thing with there Ranger. In 2019 the only trim that got the engine cover was the Lariat. In 2020 the Lariat didn't even get one. I've had no problems at all with my '20 Ranger.

On a side note, Ford doesn't put engine covers on their new Bronco either.
