Thanks Roky, so I was looking at the right kit for $1,679.

Was over at Metalcloak site also. They state that their 2.5 inch lift will require a almost $800 drive shaft, so puts it out of my price range.
Yeah, that’s because MC has the longest travel shocks (Rocksports ) at 30” extended. Anytime you get above 28-29” of shock extension it’s best to replace front DS. They use the same shock for both 2.5 and 3.5” lifts.

Five seasons, I have a 2021 Willy's sport unlimited. The wife and I intend on doing a lot of dirt roads, but also going to some of the off road parks and doing intermediate or medium trails. Doing intermediate trails at the Gulches in SC last weekend is where I discovered I need more clearance. We really only did the ones my stock Willy's would make and none of the other ones that were still considered intermediate but would have been a little more difficult.

Thanks.

I think RK and MC kits are recommended so often because they both are very high quality and easily expanded in the future if needed/wanted. They both have very good customer service as well.
If you are just getting into it good chance you will be hooked. Many people end up buying twice or regretting a purchase. Take your time and keep talking to people who have installed these kits. I have recently installed a MC Gamechanger and recommend it. It is the complete kit but it can be had in a starter kit. They run a lot of sales as well.
Roky would be a good source to listen to as he has installed a bunch of kits. I think everyone here means well but again I would be wanting actual experience with the lift in question. Good luck.

I am going to tell you that you can go a different route and I guarantee everyone that has responded already will bash it. For what you plan on doing you can do a simple coil spacer lift. I am running a 2.5” coil spacer lift on my 19 sport s JLU. I run teraflex 9550 shocks for a 2.5” lift and JKS quick disconnects. I rock crawl on this setup with no issues. I run Raush and AOAA at least every other month. I do anything from a green to a blue/black trail and have had no issues in 35,000 miles. Just my opinion.

I am open at this point, so I appreciate all the inputs from people.

What coil spacer kit are you using?

A friend gave me a rough country spacer kit he used for 2 years and the arms are completely trashed.

Just had a chat with Northridge. He only wanted to sell me the rock crawler kit, yea, go figure. When I told him I might be looking for a spacer lift, with track bar, and bracket, and then keep my Rubicon shocks and use the JKS quick disconnect. He said you can't do that, above a 2.0 in lift, when you disconnect the sway bar it could flex out and the springs will fall right out. I told someone on here had been doing it for years up top 35K with no issues, he just said, ok.

So I shall continue my quest. Thanks again to all who have posted suggestions.

I am not sure who you talked to but like everything there is always many opinions on what you should do. I agree if you run stock rubicon shocks your spring more than likely wont fall out as the shock will limit the travel. lots of variables to consider as well.

I run the rough country 2.5” front 2” rear. I only run the coil spacers though. It’s just a metal puck so in that regard all coil spacers are the same. The price difference is what the kit consists of. Like I said I run teraflex shocks and JKS quick disconnects. The only other thing I had to do because I am running 35”s was add some synergy bump stops so the tire didn’t get into the fender.

You mentioned that you wanted 35’s and a bit of extra break over angle. You are not running difficult trails and mainly stick to dirt roads.

Assuming:

  • That you are happy with your stock spring rates (not too stiff not too soft).
  • Are not experiencing any shock fade on the dirt roads.
  • You don’t plan to “grow your ambitions” in the future.
I think you will find that the coil spacers are a good cheap alternative to meet your goals. The Rubicon shock dampening will not be ideal for a the heavier 35" tires but with your use case this will probably not be an issue.

Depending on the spacer size you may want to consider caster adjustment (upper or lower links) and lateral adjustment of the axle (track bar).

Alternatively, to a lift you could consider a better skid plate and maintain your stock suspension geometry.

Thank you all. Great suggestions. I am going to keep looking and researching.

I definitely know better what I need now, and that there is more than one way to get there.

Thanks.

I have looked at the AEV duel sport and I like it. I also read some about it and it got outstanding reviews, excellent road, and off road manners.

It is one of the lifts I am considering. Thanks.

Spacers are fine, but by the time you add LCAs, track bars, disconnects, and bump stops you’re back up to the full lift prices and you’re still stuck with the single-rate factory springs. Coil springs are cheap. It’s everything else in a complete lift kit that adds up.

Word302, my quote was about the rock crawler kit. Is that which one your talking about?
