I got a great deal on a 2018 2.0l turbo, and have been getting great mpg. I checked the accuracy of the gauge on board, and found it to be pretty spot on. Ive driven about 3k miles in a month or so (yes, i drive that much) and the gauge is still showing 26 to 28 plus.

I also drive with the purposen of saving gas though.

Was never told i needed 91 gas either, just found that out today... so ive been driving 87. And will continue to run 87 unless someone can give me a reason not to!

Viper- He hates the turbo. There's a few people like him out there and on other forums that despise the 2.0L; some even think it's a government conspiracy or something that is forcing Jeep to make a vehicle that gets good MPG. It's weird, but whatever. I think technology scares people. The only thing I would agree with him on is that I wanted to wait 2 years to see how the engine performed and what, if any, issues there would be. But, my old Jeep forced me to make a decision, so I got the 2.0L and the 7 year/unlimited mileage Mopar warranty, so that took care of my primary concern. The new JL is amazing, no matter what engine though! I can not wait for the eco diesel and the all electric one to come out! So yeah, I was really excited about this option as Ford has been doing this for some time. My dad is old school V6 and when he switched to a 4 cylinder turbo from Ford, I was convinced! I knew I wanted to do the same when Jeep offered this one!

That's the funny thing. He sure spends a lot of time following the 2.0 threads for someone who hates it. lol.

I get it, some people have some fear of the unknown with all the new technology. I am relying on the warranty for that. Time will tell. So far so good.

It's very rare the actual engine leaves people stranded. It's usually the peripherals like batteries, sensors, etc. Honestly a nail in a tire or battery is much more likely to leave someone stranded on the side of the road then a actual engine failure.

It's the EPA and CAFE requirements that are forcing car companies to push for better fuel economy.

It's a problem with any enthusiast vehicle, but Jeeps are more prone to people hating change. Which I get. Look at how the Cherokee has evolved and you get a good idea what holy hell the Wrangler would look like if Fiat-Chrysler could smooth out the edges and modernize the automobile. The people who bitch and moan about any sort of change also keep FCA from destroying what makes Jeeps unique.

But they can be wrong too. Someone in one of these threads was bemoaning the back-up camera. Something that without a doubt improves safety with no inconvenience to a driver. They're probably wrong with the 2.0 as well. It's extra mpg also helps the averages so FCA can continue to offer the V6. People will bitch about the all-electric Jeep too, without realizing it's helping the manufacturer offer regular old gas guzzlers.

I like it, even though tests don't show that much of a difference between the V6 and the turbo. It may be less reliable through the years, but it's Jeep so if the engine doesn't get you something else will.

Agree! I think the eco-diesel will be cool as wil the all electric wrangler. It's funny how you mention the cherokee as I hate what they did to that vehicle. Hate! I had the Cherokee XJ and loved it, and that's what they should have kept, but just updated it the way they did the wrangler. Kept the same look, but added better engines and other features. But no! After they discontinued the XJ, then came the Liberty, which was terrible, then the re-birth of whatever that thing is out there now that calls itself a Cherokee! lol smh

In my opinion, the JK and JL are the true successors to the XJ. When the Wrangler got "soft" it also became more livable as a daily driver. I don't think TJ or earlier Wranglers/CJs were intended to be your only vehicle, but the XJ was and so were the JK/JL wranglers.

Also, the worst part of the new Cherokee is that Jeep used the Cherokee name. Selling FWD SUVs to appease CAFE is fine, but don't pretend that the new Cherokee is even remotely related to the XJ or SJ.

It was so weird. They ditch the Cherokee name and put out a rounded corners substitute with styling reminiscent that of a PT Cruiser. It's not a bad vehicle, it's just...blah. I don't know what the sales figures were for those last XJ's, but I'm sure they were trending downward and the Liberty probably improved upon them. The XJ needed to go, but Jeep really fumbled the replacement.

I'm not a fan of the new Cherokees either. I have to keep reminding myself the Cherokee represents Jeep's small SUV line and as long as it fits that category it's not necessarily blasphemy. It doesn't look good, but few new Jeeps look good. Except for the Renegade. I keep wanting to hate on it, but I just can't. It's probably the nicest looking small SUV.

From Amazon:

It's hokey, but I like it. The chrome finish is very similar to the Jeep badge. Wear that turbo with pride.

I just did about a 1,000 mile road trip, and I averaged just over 27. However, I found anything over 75mph it dropped pretty noticeably.
