I'm still on the fence about knuckle mounted lights. It looks like my front bumper skid apron would block the beam from anything but straight ahead and turned outboard, and the tire limits the outboard beam pattern. Any real world experience would be appreciated.

That was my concern and why I tried fabbing my own in a lower spot near the tie rod.
I think unless you have some good offset and lift, the stock stubby bumper/wheels will still block too much.
I ordered some too so I’ll see how they do with my setup?

I did see somewhere either another thread or on there website that someone had a set on a a stock rubicon and his beam pattern was hitting the bumper but once he got his lift on he didn’t have that issue anymore.

Just another thing to get ripped off off-road. Still don’t know why this is in the suspension forum.

maybe it's just me, but that just seems like a terrible place for lights to live.

they're mounted to an unsprung portion of the suspension, so they're subjected to every tiny bit of shock from road surface irregularities.
they're low enough to the ground to be highly likely to be damaged by flying road debris. (i've caught a lot of stuff off the road on my motorcycle boots, and they're about the same height off the ground.)
they'll be underwater with likely every water crossing.
given the above, what's the life expectancy for a lamp mounted in this location?

unless it's just about a 'look', i'm not sure i see the point of them, anyway; being mounted near the center of the inboard side of the wheel, they're not likely to throw any light out to the outside of where you're steering in a turn, so they wouldn't even serve the same purpose as Ditch Lights.

another consideration is legality; are they legal for on-road use? would have to look up the Code for the state(s) i'd be using them in to see what they minimum height is for lights. (i know in Calif, technically i'd have to have them covered on the road, and that sounds really inconvenient.)

not meaning to spoil anyones fun here, and if it's just about a 'look', all bets are off (no logic applies).
but what's the draw here?
Have had mine for about a year, wheeled it all over the US and in pretty much every condition. Zero issues. I run small KC lights and have not had a single problem with them. Mud, snow, ice, lots of water crossings, "mud pit" that I believe is also the septic system at the park LOL and every day driving. I spray them off and keep on going.

The lighting is perfect for navigating low speed areas. They don't blind my spotter but allow enough light down low to see what is where. They also are fantasic for foggy/dusty conditions for the lead jeep to see me following them (I run amber covers on the lights). You can see them in my profile pic during the day but here's a better shot of them installed. Of all the lights I run, these compliment things nicely.

When you are working on a lighting plan these definitely make sense to consider. I will say running them on bigger tires, the angle you set them for makes a difference as the tire will block the L/R lighting.

Looks really good.
Did you use the extra kc light bracket that gatekeepers sell separately or are those just the brackets that come with the kc light?
Looks like Reid knuckles was there any mods to the knuckles or the light brackets to get them to work together or did they just bolt up?

Thank you.

I just bolted them up on the hole from gatekeeper. They are Reid knuckles, no issues bolting them up. Had them powder coated to match so they look pretty "factory" Here's a shot before mounting the lights

How are the lights holding up? Looking at these and am torn if I should put a bit more into the lights, or if theirs are good?

So far the lights are holding up good. My only gripe I have with them is I got the white light portion of it aimed where I want it but when switched over to the yellow lights they shine way up higher. To change the light color, you just turn the light off then back on.
They are not bad lights and I got them on sale for 30.
Now because of my personal taste all my other lights are diode dynamics I do eventually plan on buying a set of of there c1.

I’m looking at going with the diode dynamics c1 pro in white spot pattern. I already have the c3 pro in amber in flood on the bumper and plan to swap out stock fogs for there elite fogs in amber also.

Hey @richk225,

If you're thinking about adding knuckle lights to your setup, consider Baja Designs' S1 light. Despite its compact size, it delivers powerful illumination. When deciding between clear or amber, we offer a solution that combines the benefits of both. I suggest opting for a clear wide/corning S1 with an amber rock cover. This setup allows for easy swapping of color temperature while providing added protection for your lights. It's the best of both worlds! If you have any questions about our products or would like to get a quote built out please shoot me an email at [email protected]

Best,
Bill

Anyone try this with a light the size of the Baja Designs Squadron? How's the clearance?

I'm looking at eventually swapping my front bumper for one that doesn't have fog light cutouts, and mounting the lights on top of the new bumper would be too high to be useful or street legal fog lights. I would have to measure, but I am pretty sure the knuckle location would be within the legal height requirements.

Also, anyone have issues with their wiring at full flex? Seems like that could also be a challenge.
