They just need to license Toyota's solid state battery. 700+ mile range and 10 minute charge times. I'd be in.

I'm sure that you're referring to the battery that Toyota hasn't figured exactly how to package completely and get into mass production.

In the 1960s we were all going to be flying in supersonic passenger jets and nuclear energy would make power "too cheap to meter". To this end they built the Concorde and a Soviet version as well as hundreds of nuclear power plants. We still are flying subsonic passenger jets and my house still has a meter on the side and the energy costs keep going up every year.

Yep, an EV with exceptional range, 100% of its torque available at ZERO RPMs, and lots of extraneous parts left on the floor since things like transmissions, transfer cases, drive shafts, and possibly differentials and lockers are no longer needed.

The Ramcharger implementation is claimed to have 663 horsepower and 615 pound feet of torque with a range of 690 miles. Oh yeah.
The only thing that disappoints me is Stellantis' reluctance to adopt the Tesla/NACS plug. It"s a done deal, get on board. I am not going to drop $90k on a Wagoneer EV in 2025 if it doesn't have NACS. Hope they come around soon so it's available at launch....

Toyota is using their PR machine to oversell their commercialization of solid state batteries, as they have fallen behind in EV development and needed a distraction. I'd bet other players bring solid state to the masses before Toyota.

ConvAir B-36 carrying a nuclear reactor for testing over the United States. A lot of concepts became absolutely nothing.

Having owned an EV with a range extender (an i3), it’s a great powertrain for commuting for sure, assuming you can plug it in at home and remember to keep it charged.

And carrying around an integrated generator and a large battery could be pretty cool for overlanding.

For rock crawling… I can’t see any benefits, but that could be because I know zilch about that (yet!)

The local former Caste SAC base has a B-36 in it’s museum.

Torque. An incredible amount of torque at stupidly low RPMs.

And depending on the motor configuration we should have much more control over how power is delivered to each wheel. Power can be directed to the wheel(s) that still have traction.

The Ramcharger uses a Penastar , not exactly small. ??‍♂
The big difference is that an internal combustion engine used as a range extender doesn't need to be tuned to be able to operate at a wide range of RPM's and loads. The tune can be optimized for a single RPM and a single load to achieve a level of efficiency impossible in a drive engine.

Yep- constant load- constant speed likely 1500- 1800 RPM . Cam profile, induction optimized with smaller TB and runners to increase velocity, tune, etc. In the time it takes to program the constant load and RPM into the computer and pour a cup. turbo worthless for the application. V6 available and good with just a few tweaks. Understandable choice.

I can't wait.

I'm very excited about a 2 door electric wrangler. And by the time I can afford one, the tech will be leaps ahead of where it already is now.

so cool. insane that it's taken so long to finally arrive.

Only 110 years, the diesel electric railcar pic on pg 1 is a 1914. WTF took so long for the leaps ahead ?!

A PU this old muscle V8 or more rodder can Hate to Love. All very good numbers plus practical and efficient, Damnit. Should my 29 year old V10 Dodge die (obsolete part almost killed it already) I had decided on an F150 W factory gen 5 Whipple SC—700 HP, upgraded 800HP gen 6 just announced for Mustang, F150 likely to follow. The definition of the hell with practical and efficient….. Enter Ramcharger— OH SH!T

but the F150 is still available in a SC-SB. Could save what’s left of my sanity…. maybe ?
