Can't wait until Indy and NASCAR go full EV.... Imagine the thrill of hearing an Indy car hiss by on the straights. You will prolly be able to hear the NASCAR drivers cuss each other as they wirr by. ?
Not sure you're making the case you think you are. The Doppler Effect could make some of that pretty damn funny... :)

So your get a choice between either all electric, or electric with a gas generator to charge batteries. After 50 years of Jeep ownership I no longer have a desire to purchase a new Jeep. Looks like I'll just keep what I have.

REALLY glad I got a 392 when they were available.

RANGE EXTENDER!!!!

Jeep Wrangler JL Electric Wrangler confirmed laugh-jack-nicholson

(Genius 1.) Hey guys, I have a great idea, so we're getting away from these combustion engines because they're bad for the environment, and we're going over to these fully electric engines. Well these fully electric engines can't go very far so we need something that will increase the distance they can travel... Thoughts?

(Genius 2.) Well, why not have something that charges it while it's driving!?

(Genius 1.) That's a great idea, but what could we possibly used to charge the battery while the vehicle's on the go?

(Genius 3.) Why not use solar panels on all upward facing surfaces of the vehicle?

(Genius 1.) Do you know how much that would cost, we're not trying to reinvent the wheel here! Any other ideas?

(Genius 2.) We could always add a combustion engine to charge the electric battery!

(Genius 1.) Good god man, you're a genius! We'll save billions on a product that's already readily available on the market, and is efficient, and will produce plenty of power to charge our electric powered vehicle... You're getting a big bonus this year!!!

(Genius 3.) Isn't that what we're trying to get away from!?

(Genius 1.) You're fired!!

What's the Doppler effect?

Only Doppler I've ever heard of is in relation to meteorology radars... ?‍♂

It's the change in pitch you hear when something making noise passes you at speed.

" The new Wrangler will be available with both pure electric and range-extender electric drivetrains..."

range-extender electric drivetrain is a weird way to say hybrid.
Not sure why everyone gets so fired up about this. Literally every hybrid that exists now can use either or both its electric motors or ICE to provide propulsion. Yes, that includes the few "series hybrids" that exist, like the Volt or Outlander - in both cases, the ICE can have direct mechanical connections to the road, but they use that mode less often. The "REV" solution can only provide propulsion via electric motors. As such, it is an EV that also happens to have a generator.

20 years ago, I got pulled over twice 3 minutes apart in Virginia, the 2nd stop the cop said he caught me on the Doppler, I was like WTF, he was laughing.

Yep, an EV with exceptional range, 100% of its torque available at ZERO RPMs, and lots of extraneous parts left on the floor since things like transmissions, transfer cases, drive shafts, and possibly differentials and lockers are no longer needed.

The Ramcharger implementation is claimed to have 663 horsepower and 615 pound feet of torque with a range of 690 miles. Oh yeah.

Because it likely wouldn't be a hybrid.
It would be an all electric drivetrain, with a small engine to charge the drivetrain.
A hybrid has an electric drive and a fuel drive.

I would consider one if they make it in a 2 door. My son is going to college in about a year so my wife can have a car with gas and I can have the electric Wrangler for local stuff. I just wouldn't buy one the first year they come out. Let Jeep work out the kinks first.
Jeep is still working out the kinks on the JL…

Wranglers are _heavy_ and not aerodynamic, I'm super curious to see what range they can throw together for an all electric jeep without the range extender. I love my 4xe but I wonder how they can add another 1000 pounds in batteries, even removing the ICE drivetrain components
It's not like the engines, turbo (on applicable models) transmission, etc are light... I would expect the weight of the lightest drivetrain option will be the same or close-enough as makes no difference - if not lighter...

The Ramcharger uses a Penastar , not exactly small. ??‍♂
