Range extender is a pure electric drivetrain with an ICE generator as announced for the Ramcharger. As used for over 100 years with a battery addedUnless it's a drivetrain that is mainly ICE, but adds a 'max regen' feature that isn't a plug in, nor offers the ability to select different engine-modes like the current 4xE?
Sort of. In a range-extender the ICE doesn't connect to the drivetrain at all. It just acts as a back-up generator for the electric drivetrain. It's a much simpler implementation than a true hybrid drivetrain." The new Wrangler will be available with both pure electric and range-extender electric drivetrains..."
range-extender electric drivetrain is a weird way to say hybrid.
The Ramcharger should work out the bugs and has very good numbers but also has a lot of battery room. Solid state coming but Toyota has already pushed mass production back (typical Toyota) from 27-28 to 30. I wouldn’t consider buying an electric that will then be obsolete until they do.I would consider one if they make it in a 2 door. My son is going to college in about a year so my wife can have a car with gas and I can have the electric Wrangler for local stuff. I just wouldn't buy one the first year they come out. Let Jeep work out the kinks first.
More reason to wait for the lighter more dense and efficient, shorter charging time solid state batteries that will greatly diminish current battery vehicles value. Toyota said “limited production” from launch to mass production. Special models- maybe Lexus ? ??‍Wranglers are _heavy_ and not aerodynamic, I'm super curious to see what range they can throw together for an all electric jeep without the range extender. I love my 4xe but I wonder how they can add another 1000 pounds in batteries, even removing the ICE drivetrain components
As someone who regularly attends the Indy 500, that would kill the thrill for me.Imagine the thrill of hearing an Indy car hiss by on the straights.
