Same issue here with JL Rubicon 08/18 with 20k miles. Dealer said they were replacing the doors. We’ll see. After I left dealer I just realized this is also happening on the hood. This is unbelievable. It is a brand new car. Quality on this vehicle is close to none.

Ugh sorry to hear. It looks like every hinge? Mine is only bad on one hinge and starting to occur on a few other door hinges. Im still dreading getting mine repaired.

I dealt with this last year when mine had all 4 doors and hood bubble up at about 5000km. Dealer took pictures and said to monitor it. Got a call about 4 months later to bring it in for repair. They had it about 2 weeks. Body shop manager explained that it was a complex repair. He said that the hinges are attached before painting at the factory causing a bare metal to metal contact. FCA reported to him that chemical residue from treating the metal before painting is getting trapped between hinge and door skin causing oxidation of the aluminum which propagates out under the paint.

They removed the hinges from the doors/hood and had to sand and treat the area with a chemical supplied by FCA. Then they primed the door/hood and hinges before attaching them together (this step is not done at factory level) and repainted the doors and hood. Hopefully having the primer between the hinge and door skin will stop this happening again. Time will tell.

What is unbelievable it that this is happening in what is considered a brand new car. That speaks about poor quality and research of the brand. I went to the dealership today: they didn’t take the car in because they did not want to give me a rental when the car was not going to be fixed immediately on a Saturday. Also they are planning to fix it instead of replacing the whole door: unacceptable solution in a brand new car.
it looks like “Jeep doesn’t care”.

Anybody have a defect like this? It’s drivers side rear door. I honestly don’t care about it at all and won’t be bothering for a “fix”. I just seen it again doing a mid winter detail and was curious if anyone has something similar.

Does anyone know if this would be covered by the corrosion warranty? I have 38k miles on mine and so I'm out of the basic warranty.

This sucks! I brought my Jeep in for repair twice related to this. The first time they had it for 4 days. Then I had to bring it back because the re-paint looked like crap and they had to wet sand it. Well, 30 days later and the corrosion is coming back! This is on a jeep that has less than 6,500 miles and is kept in a garage.

@JeepCares it's time to escalate this beyond simply having it repaired again. I'm messaging you now.

Corrosion warranties often only cover incidents where an actual hole corrodes through the metal.

I recall other vehicles where half the car was rusting but because none of the rusted areas had rusted through, it wasn’t covered.

What does the warranty text say?

I called dealer today, they told me to get an estimate and they would submit to jeep. Seem like a waste of my time, but I've got to try it.

I called body man I trust, he says he isn't interested in the repair. Says its only going to last a few years and returns. I am going to put this off another year and hope for a solution from jeep= new doors and hood.

So sorry to see this happening to people. Could I ask whether your rigs showing this significant problem are parked in garages, under carports or are outside in the elements 24x7? My late 2018 Granite Crystal with 12K miles is fortunately garaged often and not showing any such signs...yet. Thx.

Mine is just over a year old, has been garaged since new, never seen salt or snow, and under 6,500 miles. :(. INext week I will be calling my dealer to have it repaired for the second time.

This is galvanic corrosion because of the aluminum doors and steel bolts. Once it starts it is almost impossible to stop it. If they can clean it all out and epoxy paint the area it MAY stop it. But they absolutely have to put in new bolts! The bolts have a coating on them that helps prevent this from happening, if they re use the bolts it will 100% do the same thing again.
