Dunno if someone mentioned it already but mine has small bubbles on the top windshield where it meets the soft top on the drivers side corner

is there an scientific pool?
This is about as Scientific as you get. Stellantis has never reached out to me, and asked me if I had corrosion(bubbling of the paint), or anyone else for that matter. . I'm sure they wouldn't share whatever information they have, unless there was a court order to do so.

This is about as Scientific as you get. Stellantis has never reached out to me, and asked me if I had corrosion(bubbling of the paint), or anyone else for that matter. . I'm sure they wouldn't share whatever information they have, unless there was a court order to do so.
Stellantis now knows exactly what the numbers are. They decided a while back it's cheaper to just individually fix the issue for those that catch it within the 5 year corrosion protection window rather than mess with the assembly line process in Toledo.

I think in retrospect, they would have taken a different path if they knew what they knew now. Also, the introduction of some real competition with the Bronco forced them to address these issues properly going forward.

How have they addressed the issue? I know they tried putting shims in the door hinges,, but did that solve the corrosion? As for Broncos, do they have aluminum doors and hoods? Are the Broncos corroding?

How have they addressed the issue? I know they tried putting shims in the door hinges,, but did that solve the corrosion? As for Broncos, do they have aluminum doors and hoods? Are the Broncos corroding?
Think they just replace the hinges with ones made of the same metal as the doors. The corrosion was happening because they used 2 different metals. Haven’t heard anything about the broncos

Unfortunately, this is incorrect. Both the hinge and the door have been aluminum since the JL was launched. It’s not galvanic corrosion, it’s simply corrosion from the raw aluminum under the hinges corroding. The only thing preventing air: water intrusion is the paint sprayed over the hinges, as they are attached to the door prior to painting during the assembly process. The zinc shim simply acts as a bandaid to prevent the corrosion from occurring during the warranty period. If you want to prevent the under hinge corrosion, remove the hinge, prep and seal the raw aluminum, and replace the hinge. That’s the best option, and I can’t say that it will be 100 percent effective. And, this will not solve the hood edge seam corrosion or the windscreen corrosion or the door edge seams corrosion. So there’s that😢

Unfortunately, this is incorrect. Both the hinge and the door have been aluminum since the JL was launched. It’s not galvanic corrosion, it’s simply corrosion from the raw aluminum under the hinges corroding. So, galvanic corrosion is an issue. Also, the hinge pin is steel. Galvanic Corrosion.

I agree with your statement concerning the bolts being steel, but stand by my assessment that the cause of corrosion is not galvanic, but simple aluminum oxidation. But we can disagree on that point, since there is likely no way to determine the actual culprit. I will say that when I removed and replaced my hinges there was no evidence of galvanic corrosion at the steel aluminum interfaces, and no evidence of corrosion on the steel bolts. While there was plenty of aluminum oxidation creeping into the seams. However, I will admit to applying a generous amount of marine grade antioxidant grease to the bolts during reassembly

My theory is a prep-wash deficiency. They run the prep bath until it needs to be replaced and sometimes it is refreshed too late. If your panels were done late in a batch, you are the unlucky holder of a vehicle prone to the problem. There may have been deep calculation on the cost of refreshing the bath sooner vs warranty. Such is the balance of costs in manufacturing. Sometimes the costs of losing reputation and future sales isn't weighted heavily enough.

Aluminum by itself is naturally self protecting, it turns grey with an aluminum oxide film that prevents it from further deterioration.

The self protecting seems to be happening to our Jeeps. The problem is, it's happening under the paint.

Any new JL's getting corrosion, or has it stopped with the newer JL's??
