The TLDR version is that the corrosion isn't as much a result of hinge material as contamination in the prep process of any aluminum body part. So, if your hood is showing signs of paint bubbling, it's not fixable. You need a new hood cause the chemical reaction between the aluminum hood and steel particulates contaminating the paint process set the corrosion process into an irreversible death spiral. Any fix will only last a year or two short of replacing the hood. Also, Stellantis deserves a class action suit over this cause their only fix ensures it lasts only until the warranty runs out. They know they screwed up and are hoping the lost future revenue from customer loss and lawsuits is lower than the cost of fixing this. This is downright an embarrassment. Shame things didn't get any better after Marchionne died. Jeep is still just a Fiat now. We're in an abusive relationship.
Thanks and completely makes sense

Just reading through it. Perhaps I missed it but I’m not seeing where the hood “ must “ be replaced. I wish it would be and hope I misread.
Pretty sure the TSB states that any panel with corrosion in the hem flange must be replaced. If you have bubbling along the edge of your hood, take a look at the hem flange where the bubbling is. Unless it's the result of a chip in the paint, the corrosion started in the flange and spread to the outside edge

It’s definitely NOT do to any chips at all. Also, this is the second time they’ve repaired bubbling at the edge of the good. This is good info provided on the TSB. Hard to argue given they’ve fixed this under a claim once before.

Thanks for the assistance. I sent a link to the most recent TSB to the dealers body shop. Given that they repaired the hood once already ( last year )and the bubbling came back I simply stated that this notice clearly states a “touch up “ will not suffice. It seems me sending them the notice did the trick because I was notified, today, they’re ordering me a new hood!!!!

Here are the latest TSBs I know about.
Yes thanks! After sending this to the dealers body shop they quickly responded that they WILL be replacing the hood along with the doors. I haven’t asked them yet but I assume the hood hinges will be replaced as well?

There’s a group on FB called JL Corrosion. I’ve been reading dozens of posts regarding part replacements do to the paint issues. Apparently, some say the hoods, doors were completely replaced while others said just the skins. Many who had the skins replaced complained of the door seems not aligned, causing water and excessive air seepage. Can anyone expand on this?

Today I was told that in Europe Jeep covers this under 2 year limited warranty period and if there is no hole in the panel then 7 year warranty over body panels perforation obviously does not apply.

I feel fucked, my Wrangler 2021 has corrosion over all hinges now and previously I was told to wait till it appears everywhere because Jeep paints panels and it would be a good idea to do it once its everywhere. Probably someone forgot to tell me that it will be on MY cost then..

From what I read here I see that repainting is only band aid it can reappear in the future. Great!

I brought my 2018 Wrangler to Newport Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep in Rhode Island over a year ago to start a claim for bubbles in my paint. One of the times that I called back a few months later, they told me that someone from Jeep corporate was just there to review the cases. I called back a few months later and they said it was still with corporate. When I called today, they said that they are a new company that bought out the old dealership and are not handling paint claims. Please let me know who I need to contact about my claim now. @JeepCares

Hopefully you have something in writing from the dealership that you started a claim or you are probably SOL

Washed the jeep over the weekend and noticed small bubbles in the paint at one of the rear door hinges. I am over a year and have roughly 27k miles. They are hard underneath and the paint is not loose and pretty sure they were not there last time i washed the vehicle. It cant be rust under the paint since the doors are aluminum. All other hinges are fine. Has anyone seen this issue?

October 2023 was my last post on this. Dealer fixed my issues and the shop did a good job. However, almost 2 Years later I have noticed one of my hinges, and the right front passenger door bottom seam starting to bubble. The hinge had the problem before, but not the door. Dealer paint shop now said that I am out of warranty both years and milage, they cannot do anything. Estimate for new hinge and new door was almost $1500. They say just fixing it, they cannot guarantee it will not come back. I asked can they guarantee that with a new door and new hinge it will not come back. The answer was no! I am thinking I can get it fixed for less than half the cost at my usual paint shop, which I know they will zinc chromate the bare aluminum just like they do with aircraft. That should hold up the same as an aircraft. With no guarantee, that is probably what I will be looking at doing this time. Only good news is that only two spots have the problem now, at least so far.

Thank you for tagging us. Please send us a private message with the last eight characters of the VIN and the name of the dealership you are working with. Our team would be happy to assist.

Sorry you are dealing with this. The dealership I went to in Massachusetts handled this so well and were a pleasure to deal with.

The thing is though that Jeep Cares was not really helpful at all. I had to do all the legwork and just keep calling all the Jeep dealers in my area until I found one that would give me an appointment to be evaluated. Once I found that dealership, they took care of everything. The only thing Jeep Cares did for me was after the fact to confirm that I was locked in for the repair under warranty once the dealership submitted the paperwork to Jeep. My warranty was going to expire before the repairs could be completed so I was worried about that.

Don't let this go.
