I purchased my own oil and made certain they added to the service tag notes the weight and make (Pennzoil Ultimate Platinum 0W/20) and kept the oil purchase receipt. That way I know they could only fill what was given. I always check the dip stick to make sure it's clean/new oil and the level is good before I leave the lot. I've had it happen to me on 2 occasions where the oil was dirty and they tried to say it was changed.

Pic and idea stolen from @Roky or @mgroeger I don’t recall?

Lol, yeah, when I got my rig, (2018) I had no idea that the dealership was having such a hard time putting the right amount of oil in the new model year jeeps….So after my first ( and last ) free oil change, that reminder ended up being for me, since my work truck with the same engine, takes 6 quarts……🤣

It is fascinating that after 7 years the engine been out people still go by "mine takes 6qt, or 5.5qt..." and muddying the waters further...
Folks, it is NOT arbitrary, the engine has a FIXED volume/size... 😊

Please read, or print and bring to your service if you are not doing the oil change yourself, and insist on following:

From FCA press release when they introduced the 2nd Gen Pentastar...
"Windage-tray weight was slashed by 19 percent and front-cover weight was cut by 5 percent. The oil pan was redesigned from a two-piece to a single-piece pan and the sump was reduced from a 6-quart fill to a 5-quart fill – resulting in an overall 5-pound weight savings compared with the previous generation Pentastar V-6 engine."

If you doing the oil change yourself, get the drain valve, there are a few on the market, I use
Fumoto F106SX M14-1.5 Drain Valve - Adjustable nipple [torqued to 18 ft-lb], install it by hand and torque, set it and forget it, and your future oil changes will be a 5 minute job...

===================================================================

I have read a ton of posts and watched numerous YT videos, about oil types, viscosity, detergents, low-mileage/high-mileage, hot climate/cold climate, towing/not-towing, as well as oil filters, types, materials, porosity - ALL as confusing as Hell, and after all I have settled on:

- Mopar MO-349 (OE Oil Filter)
- Pennzoil Ultra Platinum® Full Synthetic 5 quarts of 0W-20 (meets FCA Material Standard MS-6395)
- Oil Filter cap requires 24 mm (15/16 inch) socket - Hand tighten, till rubber ring snaps and then 1/4 turn extra

===================================================================

I do my own oil change/tire rotation and do not care anymore who says what, this is my every 5000 km routine, and if you are confused (as I was, trying to find the best oil/filter) it is SAFE to assume the above is perfectly OK for your 3.6l Pentastar engine...

My EcoDiesel Wrangler says it takes 9 quarts, but I put in 10 quarts for the last 3 oil changes because it's easier to dump in (2) 5 quart containers then it is to try and measure 4 quarts out of 1 of them. Also there's something funky with my oil pressure sensor, it bitches randomly if there's only 9 quarts, but somehow 10 quarts and it's happy. 🤷‍♂️

I blame the sensor from Mopar being manufactured in China.

@Terrymo

Nice tag.

Funny, I wrote this note on my Toyota for myself a few years ago. I was having a really difficult time remembering 4.4 quarts. I grabbed a sharpie and put an end to that.

Still, 4.4 qt is such a pita for measuring and having leftovers. Toyota engineers can't design an oil system capacity that rounds up or down? Pentastar designers got to 5 on the nose, super convenient with the 5 qt jugs.

I’m not that clever and nobody else will be changing my oil. I think @mgroeger and @Roky had a telepathic moment and came up with it simultaneously
