Yeah I trusted all you monsters when I did my first oil change. Bought one 5 quart jug of engine juice and it was a quart to little according to the dipstick. Nowhere in my town carries 0w20 PUP, so I had to borough the FILs Colorado to drive to work the next day. The Wallyworld by work carries 0w20 PUP.

Mine requires 6 quarts for some reason.
Always nice to put name on face

I did my first two free oil changes with the dealer on my ‘25 Rubicon X. Today I changed it myself for the first time and 6 damn quarts came out! The manual clearly states 5 quarts so I called the dealer and the service advisor said “they put what it needs and the VIN lookup says 6 quarts”. She said every VIN is different. I called BS on it and she transferred me to the parts guy as a second validation. He looked up my VIN and said “nope, it definitely takes 5 quarts”. P.S. the oil pan bolt required me using an impact wrench to loosen! Had to be 80-100 ft/lbs! I’ll never take it in for something I can do myself. Unbelievable.
This is what they do best. Mess up your jeep then gaslight you on how it was your fault. It’s almost time for a new clutch on my jeep and I have the recall that needs to be done. I could get a free clutch but no I will rather spend $3000 and put an aftermarket clutch in by a reputable shop then go to the dealer for a free clutch.

A friend of mine, Paul owns a small mechanic shop. His top notch mechanic resigned. He started the hiring process and gave a young man a try. His first task was a simple oil change. Paul saw thus said young man putting the oil plug back on with an impact gun. Paul picked that boy up by his buster browns and escorted him to the nearest door.
The kid takes some initiative to make sure the drain plug doesn't vibrate loose and you guys are all over him.

I've said before that buying an impact wrench should require a background check. Alternately, they should be sold with CCW (i.e., loosening) rotation only.

Not a month goes by where I don't see a horror story post such as this one, where the offender had absolutely no clue how to use an impact.

I feel for the non-gearheads here who don't have the knowledge, tools or garage space for that option. Make sure you verify what's going on!
I've given a couple of family members and friends strict instruction to vet any perceived issues through me first, before picking up the phone to make an appt. at the dealer. I'll do as much as I'm able, gratis, so that if or when they do need to visit a Service Dept., they're armed with information they wouldn't otherwise have or know.

I prefer the Votex. It's American made and I think the smaller size would be less likely to get messed up off road.

You're not going to kill your engine putting in an extra quart. One less court maybe, but even then not likely to make a huge deal. 1 quart isn't going to raise or lower your oil pressure enough to do any damage

This information Is readily available on the internet. Maybe next time do some research before you post a thread and waste everyone's time. :headbang:

they're paid like minimum wage, be happy your drain plug gets tightened. the oil change guys are as green as they get. always change your own oil if you have the ability to do so.
I'm paid nothing to do my own oil changes and I don't overfill. That's the problem... just because someone makes minimum wage doesn't excuse them from understanding what they are doing. No one is holding a gun to their head to work there. Ignorance is not tied to income.

Per my owners manual, when checking the oil level, have the engine warm, shut it off for 5 minutes then check the level. Mine is a diesel so your procedure might be different.

I’ve been to two dealerships that think the JL gets 6 quarts. First one the service manager was arguing with me that “I was wrong and it gets 6 quarts, doesn’t matter what the manual says.”

Second service manager told me it took 6, when I explained it was 5 he suggested we go in and check the computer. His response was “well ya learn something new every day!”

Unbelievable!! These people are supposed to know what the hell is going on, especially something as simple as an oil change.

From FCA press release when they first introduced the 2nd Gen Pentastar...
"Windage-tray weight was slashed by 19 percent and front-cover weight was cut by 5 percent. *The oil pan was redesigned from a two-piece to a single-piece pan and the sump was reduced from a 6-quart fill to a 5-quart fill *– resulting in an overall 5-pound weight savings compared with the previous generation Pentastar V-6 engine."
