How do you define 'best'? We've had the Auto Start Eliminator in our JL for just over two-years now, No issues.

I’ve got the AutoStop Eliminator in my wife’s Chrysler Pacifica. $99 and works perfect.
I’ve got the Tazer in my Jeep. Got a great deal of someone selling theirs on eBay and works perfect. Plus, all the extra benefits you get with the Tazer.
I would recommend the Tazer just because of the extras you get with it.

Another one for Tazer… I wanted to do several things besides ESS and it checked all the boxes…IMO, it’s a must have mod, especially for Rubi rigs…..it’s the ultimate nanny buster….✌

I was unaware of the de facto ā€œtow modeā€. Do you know what else it does, like raise shift points, or disable V8 MDS like PU’s ? A light like my spare ring or a receiver light plugged in would have cost little or virtually nothing.
I've never actually bothered plugging anything into the tow hitch plug long-term. Only thing I've ever plugged in there was a tailgate turn signal light for trucks which I only plugged in long enough to see if it would actually work properly.

My understanding is plugging into the tow hitch plug will disable auto start stop and put you into tow mode. Which gives you more low end torque than the normal standard driving modes, and will affect you or MPGs and shift points. Beyond that I really don't know much about it. Definitely would be a question for the much more informed individuals in this forum who tow with their vehicles. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Sorry I couldn't be more help on this topic.

Treds,
Yeah, I thought about the hood switch, but I have that fancy remote start stuff, which I like and occasionally use in the summer heat, and as you're probably aware, it kills the remote start. I don't have the tow pkg. So, I'm kinda in the middle.
Like @2nd 392 and I both recommended, the Autostop Eliminator brand is really good for its price. If you want to get technical, I believe there's quite a few ways to make your own version of that for fraction of the price, but no guarantee how long it will last.

If you have uses for the TazerJL beyond the auto stop eliminator, that would definitely be a added bonus to having that technology installed.

Me myself, I just press the button occasionally. I used to have the hood switch removed, but in recent months, I've reinstalled it and I just pressed the button. If only had a handful of times in the last 3 or 4 months that I forgot to press it and remembered after it shut off. Usually I remember it by the time I hit the first stop sign at the end of my street. But occasionally it does catch me off guard.

I know I won't be able to install the Z-Automotive Tazer until after I do my stage 2 tune, which I don't plan on doing until second half of next year. That being said I'm personally not going to purchase anything if I can't install it for 8 months anyways. If you don't have use for the TazerJL / mini, you might as well save $200 and get the Autostop Eliminator instead.

At the end of the day, there are options out there, and $99 is better than $260 if you ask me. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø :like:

You misunderstood me, all I know of stop start is it would have been a deal breaker if there was no way to shut it off when I was looking at getting a diesel…. With the V8 if simply plugging in a small light would have saved years of hating MDS, cussing, using manual shift to disable, and searching for a device to disable it until the $275 NoLimitz was introduced.

Yes on the autostop. Works great. Been on my jeep for around a year and no issues.

Interesting. Never heard of this. I will say, using the 4pin connector still allows for ASS to work. Unsure about 7 pin though.

I'm about through pushing the ASS button. Half the time I forget and catch it at the first light.

Looking for an ASS eliminator. Which is best and why?
1) DIY Methods: e.g. hood plunger. Pros: inexpensive. Cons: put ESS off light in dash which can mask legitimate reasons why this light might turn on to indicate vehicle issues.

2) Autostart/stop pigtail tech. Pros: less expensive than the JL Tazer. Cons: more expensive if you already desire the JL Tazer's other capabilities, than to buy this device and the JL Tazer.

3) JL Tazer: Pros: less expensive if you already desire the JL Tazer's other capabilities, than to buy this device and the Autostart/stop pigtail tech. Cons: Most expensive way to just have Autostart/stop tech.

I have been using the Eliminator Harness for the last two years with no problem. I also have the Superchips FlashCal Plus with that feature, but since I'm using the Eliminator Harness, I haven't tried the FlashCal yet. I'm happy with the Eliminator Harness.

I don’t know if it’s the best but I have the AutoStop Eliminator in my 24, it’s a simple plug and play. It doesn’t make any changes to the vehicle, it just remembers the position of the switch, if ESS is turned off it stays off unless you turn it back on. No multi function menus and no pairing. If you want to remove it just unplug it.
It’s been over a year and 0 issues.

It still allows it with the 7 pin one my Rubicon, but the caveat is mine did not come from the factory with the tow package, I added it later on. Perhaps there's a software difference between the tow package and non tow package to allow for tow mode when a trailer connection is detected?
