Then you ought to be glad that those very same assholes gave you a button on the dash so you can push that button before you run up the engine for drive off.

That is great you run through a mandatory pre-drive checklist, before you open the car door, start engine, check gauges, turn off ESS); taxi (backing out of the garage/driveway; take off (before you put it in drive/first gear); cruising speed; desent/landing (arriving at your destination); shutdown (before turning off the ignition and taking your keys out of the ignition (if applicable) and locking the car with the key/fob).

It would be wonderful if other people followed those same procedures, but they don't, because it is something that hasn't been part of their normal routine in life. If a person wants to spend their hard earned $100 on a gadget to automatically turn off the ESS, great for them and nobody should give a darn about it.

I totally agree, when read in context, I never referred to anyone other than myself. Of course I implied it. This was suppossed to be a somewhat tonque-in-cheek observation of the lengths people will take to not push a button.

It is, nonetheless their choice to do whatever they want. I could care less. They can drop in a 5.7L Hemi and rewire the entire engine controller just to rid themselves of the ESS altogether. At what means they go to remove the silly little pushbutton is (of course) up to them.

For background, I'm a Software Engineer and not a pilot. I have never flown an aircraft.

My point is that you don't have to invest in anything to disable the ESS. And yes you are correct in that we are VERY lucky that they gave us this pushbutton. Because if not, a third party ESS eliminator would have become an almost mandatory expenditure.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to take this post to the absolute extreme? Not long.

Regardless, my post was all in jest. Do whatever to your rig that makes you happy. Drop it down to the ground as a low rider on 20' wheels. Extend it into a limosine. No judgement by me. I'll still wave while passing.

If however you pull up to me at a stop-light and your engine unintentionally shuts off and you start swearing expletives, I'll mouth the words "push the damn button" and not "I told you so". That of course is up to you based upon your earlier eliminator investment and installation effort.

Your finger is the only effort truly required. And yes I'll happily accelerate away knowing I'm your #1.

Best regards,
Jay

My personal opinion, best one is the cheapest one, therefore removing the hood plunger on the left when you're facing your front window from the grill, is free and easy, therefore the best!

Only downside which might annoy you is your Jeep will remind you every 2 minutes that the hood is open, but beyond that. Not too bad.

A good second option is if you have the tow package, you can plug a LED brake and reverse light into the tow hitch section, plug it into the tow hitch plug, and it will enable tow mode which also disables your auto start stop. The benefit of this one is that your Jeep will look cooler and you'll have brighter backup lights. The downside being that you're in tow mode so you're probably going to get less efficient fuel economy.

I guess if you wanted to spend money, the wife and I have had good luck with the Autostop Eliminator brand that we've had her on her 2020 Subaru Forester since week two of ownership. Zero issues and we have 80,000 mi on it over 5 years.
Just a led brake and back up light cures the ass? That's awesome, do you have any good ones, maybe 2 in one that goes in the receiver?

I did see that, asked another way, can I have both the start stop & OBDLink Mx+ plugged in the same time?

I use hockey tape.
I am not sure. I used the ECRI module with the Tazer SGW extension cables and the Vgate VLinker MC+. I would disconnect the autostop start eliminator harness in order to plug both ends of the SGW extension harness into the ECRI module when I wanted to use JSCAN. Then when I was done using JSCAN I unplugged the ECRI and plugged the auto stop start eliminator harness back in.

I haven’t used a 12+8 cable before. Maybe @THAW can answer. I use the Tazer now as well as JSCAN and the Tazer eliminates the need for the ECRI module. I wasted money getting to this point but originally was only interested in preventing the auto stop start and then got JSCAN thinking I would never use a Tazer.
A stop start defeat device can be attached inline to any working SGW/bypass setup without disrupting functionality.

The devices are essentially pass-through cables (with a module that remembers ESS button state and can automatically send an ESS button-push signal over the CAN bus).

Pretty sure this isn’t a thing. See post 38 from @Rhinebeck01 . Also the person you’re responding to can’t reply back.

Bought my first new Jerp! :)
Occupation
Bit wrassler
1) DIY Methods: e.g. hood plunger. Pros: inexpensive. Cons: put ESS off light in dash which can mask legitimate reasons why this light might turn on to indicate vehicle issues.

2) Autostart/stop pigtail tech. Pros: less expensive than the JL Tazer. Cons: more expensive if you already desire the JL Tazer's other capabilities, than to buy this device and the JL Tazer.

3) JL Tazer: Pros: less expensive if you already desire the JL Tazer's other capabilities, than to buy this device and the Autostart/stop pigtail tech. Cons: Most expensive way to just have Autostart/stop tech.
35" tires incoming (from stock 33"), ready to buy JScan, OBD adapter, SGW bypass harness (to leave attached under my dash) and maybe Tazer Mini (or the Autostop Eliminator listed on first page of this thread). Suggestions please?
