How long ago were you shopping? An RST texas edition is over 60k without any extra options. Silverado pricing (truck pricing in general) has gotten ridiculous. I plan to sell my avalanche and order a LT trailboss 6.2 but am having a hard time coming to terms with paying almost 70k for a pick up.
It was summer 2021, so quite a while ago, and before the Silverado interior refresh, and just before they started having major shortages.

I had originally intended to wait another year before getting a new vehicle but I'm glad I didn't wait - ended up getting 15% off MSRP when all the discounts/coupons added up and my Jeep was delivered in about 8 weeks. I don't think I'd get either of those today.

I've seen this argument made before, but the interior of the TJ didn't get a refresh or redesign. They just threw in a handful of newer parts, many from the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, as time went on.

Likewise, the JK interior refresh didn't update any of the technology. It retained the same gauge cluster and radios. In fact, the JK was the last vehicle to still use the old MyGig radios despite UConnect being standard in every other FCA product for years.

Stellantis is penny pinching just like everyone else right now and they'll keep the JL as it is for as long as they can, antiquated technology and all, until the ol' parts bin is bone dry.
TJ did get an interior refresh in 03. Dash switch panel is different and interior A pillar trim was added, among other things like seats.

I believe TJ got the 6-speed in it's later years. 03 maybe?
Edit: looks like it was 06.
2005

My 04 had the 5pd, and my Wife's 05 had the 6spd

Yeah, that’s like a century ago in the car market. my how things have changed. I probably could have gotten what I wanted for around 54-55k then. I offered my local dealer 53.5k otd for a 21 6.2 31k miles with all the options I would want and they wouldn’t even entertain it. And of course it’s still sitting on their lot a month and a half later. I’m kind of glad though because I love the interior refresh. But I thought if I could get a good deal on the used one they had I could drive it for a year and then upgrade when the market was a little more stable. I wish Jeep would have put the 5.7 in the gladiator. I tow and the gladiator has the rated capability I would need (unless I got a camper) but I don’t want to be stuck with the 3.6 and towing my boat an hour round trip throughout the year.

You'd be wrong. I've had it in both a F-series and Cadillac. I had no issues with it at all.
To be clear, you don't think the two transmissions are relatively equal. You think the 10 speed is smoother, hence being an upgrade? Honestly the first non fan-boy forum member I've ever seen suggest that.

The 10 speed has a lot more issues shared online.

A lot of people on this thread should have bought Grand Cherokees.
Likewise, a lot of other people on this thread should have bought an old TJ.

Trust me I’d like to, but pretty hard to find a decent one for a decent price, and the uncertainty of reliability of a 20 year old vehicle had me decide to just go new.
I do like the safety features of the JL. And don’t get me wrong, I think they should offer all the features and technology as options for those who want them, just don’t want to see too much of it standard so we can all chose what’s best for us.

Imagine them trying to do Lane Keep in the JL! LMAOOOOOOOOO
I had this convo with my wife recently ROFL. They'd have to take up cargo space in the rear for all the real time computing power you'd need to keep it in the lane on its own.

I know this will get poo-poo'd on this forum, because it's technology and technology is bad, but compared to its closest competitors (Bronco, 4runner, etc), the Wrangler model is woefully out of date.

Things that are standard or at least optional across the industry that the wrangler is missing that could be added without having to redesign the whole thing or compromising the "trail-rated" aspect of what makes a Jeep a Jeep:
  • One-touch windows up
  • Cooled seats
  • wireless Android Auto/Carplay
  • Automatic windshield wipers
  • LED headlights as standard (still blows my mind that they're not on a $40K+ vehicle)
  • Replace the "mute" button (which is actually a pause button) with something more useful
  • Waterproof (and smaller) keyfob. Threedom and Rivian have both shown significantly better keyfob options are possible without changing the technology
  • Include a winch plate in the "winch-ready" OEM steel bumper
Another more drastic thing that I don't [personally] think would really have a big negative impact (but I'm sure someone will come along to decry) would be to just curve the damn windshield. The # of people who lower it these days vs the # of people who have to replace the whole thing because a grain of salt hit it
Keep the exterior styling as is, but just add paddle shifters to the above list and that would be enough of a refresh for me to order a new 2024 to replace my 17k mile 2019...

The JL is a money making beast for Stellantis. They will not change much of anything (including known defects) unless sales slow or CAFE standards force a change. The Bronco really hasn’t hurt Jeep sales and I doubt Toyota is much of a threat. They will certainly charge plenty of $$$ for any new upgrades they decide to add.

The new model will be available in the third quarter of 2024. It will include LED headlights, leather seats with reverse cooled suction to aerate bodily gases along with the benefit of drying out the seating surfaces when exposed to rain or other wet environments , cross wind correction and of course, the new synomotive electric 4x4 system which will come with a low center of gravity lithium battery system that will provide the vehicle with a total electric range of 190 miles in perfect laboratory tested climate conditions. It will be available with optional combustion engine soundtrack with four amplified undercarriage trail rated speakers. Additional options will include secondary front axle motor disconnect with added ESS battery tucked above lithium batteries. New technologies will include shear bolts to prevent unauthorised removal or tampering with factory components.
Pricing is to be announced fourth quarter of 2023 but we have a hint base models will start at 73k.
Thank you…
Ha!
You almost had me, until you left out “heated gear shift knob” ?

It amazes me just how much the fan base has changed over the years. It went from blue jeans and burgers to Patagonia and prosciutto. And to think….we called the YJ a “Yuppie Jeep”!
