Trying to dig a foxhole with one of those stupid things was an exercise in frustration. Doing it in full MOPP gear was a miserable experience that I wish on no man

Question: What isn't a miserable experience in full MOPP gear?

yeah, OK; i need to correct myself. i have indeed used my folder for ‘exhaust’ duty; guess i’d put that out of my mind.

i’ve also had it out for fireside tasks,.. but can’t remember ever having used it as part of a vehicle recovery but once.

shovel is my most used tool. have to have a spot to relieve your self in the middle of nowhere. i think i have only used my shovel for getting a vehicle unstuck once. shovel gets stuffed under the back seat at all times with a roll of TP.

Most of my off-roading is done on the beach and shovels are a must. I have a folding shovel and a long handle shovel that works wonders on saving your back. I carry the long handle on my crossbars using the Yakima attachment. It works great and can be used to carry a kayak paddle plus other things.

Carried a folding shovel for years, used a traction board to dig out a tire one day. Threw the folding shovel in the trash right after.

I have one of those funny looking things attached to the back of my jeep (a bed) so I keep mine in there. All my recovery gear is lime green so everyone k owns it’s mine lol

I’ve been carrying this old Ames 82 around with me for many years….. came in handy a few times until I got to FL. It’s a little less than useless in the sugar sand….you take one scoop out, and two fall in…. …. Just carry it now because social convention dictates that I should…..

I carry a similar style of shovel and store it in one of my duffel backs I take offroad. tbh here in the north east I use my chainsaw and branch lopper way more often.

My buddies and I did a "budget" fishing trip to Alaska. Took a float plane into a remote river near a small lodge, the guide had tents, cots, cooking gear and a toilet seat screwed to an old school metal folding chair set up for us. Nothing moves your morning movement faster than sitting on that contraption with grizzly tracks scattered around the "restroom" and a 44 mag in your lap.
