I see what you did there.;) You have to get up P-R-E-T-T-Y earlier in the morning to fool me.;)

You took the physical key out of the fob and made it lighter in weight, didn't you?;)

The battery too.;)

We don't need no stinkin battery, just push the start button with the fob...

...oh, and never lock the rig's doors.;) That could be a problem, unless you keep this on your fob

This thread was helpful. I ordered two blanks from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HVSFHQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and had cut local in the Atlanta area. Only place I could find charged $75 to cut the two keys. Not happy paying over $40 for a simple mechanical key that only unlocks the doors but I've been programmed from an early age by my dad to always have spare in case keys get locked in the car. When (if) needed, will be worth the money
Did the locksmith require the “key code”? Locally the guy want that code and said that the tag on the key fob was not the code. I think he is confused, I don’t need a cop programmed, I just need laser cut duplicate.

No, the locksmith does not need the "key code".

I just brought my fob and two blanks to the locksmith. He Lazer cut the two blanks.

When I was at the locksmith, no mention was made of a key code. The locksmith did not look up a key code and I did not have a key code.

Locksmith placed the key (key was not removed from the fob) into his Lazer key cutting machine and his machine Lazer cut the blank, making the necessary key. He cut two blanks, making 2 keys. No key code used or mentioned...

Same here. No code. Similar operation to old school hardware store machine but just more expensive. The machine software wanted to know vehicle type and first guy was struggling as 2018 Wrangler was not in system but another guy took over and used another FCA vehicle as proxy. Keys work fine.

As others have said, torque is an issue but this is not an everyday key so I'm good with it.

No lasers needed. For some reason these keys are sometimes referred to as laser cut keys, but cutting the duplicates is a mechanical process, much like cutting regular keys according to the locksmith that cut mine.

I agree the cutting of the blank is a mechanical process but you hear the term Lazer cut most always.

Regular old key cutting machines cannot do the deed so I was told. Not all locksmiths have the required machine.

I contacted a scad of local local locksmiths and they all said they did not have a machine to do it... said they machine they needed was too expensive did not have one.. Anyway, I had to drive quite a distance to get to a locksmith that could do the job... that had the necessary machine.

The key fob again. What's the issue this time the size it stabed me is it water proof. I hate that I have to carry it.
It's smaller than my large cell phone and smaller than my wallet.
I truly don't know why I hate it probably because someone else hates it. Or people like complaints.

Me I like the key Fob rugged and big it's cool to show to non Jeep owners

Yeah, we have whiner's for and against the fob...... example .... your pro post here, for one.... :cwl:

As for me, I could care either way in regard to the size of the fob..

I did have a key blank cut that will work with my JL, though.. The fob does not fair well with activities like skydiving, snorkeling, swimming, running, Sea DOOing and such.

I leave my Fob in the JL, encased in a Farady bag, locked in the JL, when doing such activities...and use the cut key for unlocking the JL.

Also, I have proximity so my fob is carried in a Gibson Holster, as I rarely need it, so, no need to have in the pocket.

If you dig long enough and deep enough, you can sometimes get an answer that makes sense. The machine is called a Ninja Laser. It uses a probe bit to follow the contour of the original key, simultaneously cutting the contour into the blank. My local shop currently charges $10 to cut your blank.

I enjoy a near genius YouTube woodworker named Mathias Wandel. Perhaps one of his favorite tools is the Pantorouter. I believe he has one made out of wood and another in steel.

I wonder if he'll make JL keys?;) The video shows him copying shapes at different scale, although 1:1 ratio copies are doable.

If anyone knows..related to this thread somewhat....I ask because it's 6 degree F out right now.

Lock the rig with the physical key only and not by either pressing the door lock switch or locking the doors (and arming the rig) on (most) JLs otherwise equipped as such, with the fob....

does the alarm engage--just by the physical key turn locking the door?

Assume a non bare bones Sport JL where door locks and key fob arming locking are available.

Thanks.
