Sounds like someone who is far behind times. No key fobs are anything seems to be STONE AGE THOUGHT PROCESS.

The JL is an genuine Jeep no matter how much electronic devices they install. Its modern. Jeep had to move forward with technology.
Its life.

And no its not Suburbia at all its what it is modern day. And I want speak on beer I don't drink so each his own.

I like the key Fob, but again I guess I'm custom to holding large items.

I disassembled my fob to release the spring tension on the blade and noticed that the top of the blade already has hole and could be put on a key ring as is, if someone didn't want to mess with getting an additional key cut.

But will it work whilst detached ? What is with the Continental logo ? That is a German tire company .

Why would it not work while detached, it’s not a chipped key.

Well , some posters above # 48 ( @SupChic ) said it did not work whilst detached . ( You gotta love it : buy a new Jeep and then you are required to become an electronic locksmith just to get in . ) Then # 50 @nvabill said to use a pair of pliers . ( A non-electronic solution .)

Also , others report that the special electronic code tag is somehow missing . Likely some dealer turd took the code tag , for reasons of stupidity or maliciousness ? Who knows ?

Not working whilst detached is mechanical not electrical, you need some way to apply torque to the key. The first ring I put mine on was too small, after I put it on a larger ring it was easier to use.

Well I could see having to use a pair of pliers or similar, I popped out the key from the FOB and tried it in the door and it’s pretty stiff to turn so I can only imagine it would be a huge pain to try and hold in your hand and try to turn in the lock.

How about rigging up a small socket wrench ? You could use it to turn the key both directions .

Having a spare key is nice but your still going to need a FOB to start the Jeep so if you lose the FOB and have a spare key on the Jeep you can get in but unless there is a spare FOB in the Jeep your not going anywhere so I am having a hard time figuring out why the spare key.

Ok, I went to the locksmith today. He was able to cut the JL key!
He also drilled a hole in the key shaft for a key ring.

All local Jeep dealers and locksmiths said no way could they cut the JL key for me. Said I would have to get cut by Jeep (not at a Jeep dealership) using the Vin#.

I had two done. Total was $54.95 with NYS tax. I gave the guy $60. So, the two blanks purchased on eBay that were $8.63 + the $60 cut fee, ends up being $34.31 for each key. Of course, I had to drive 45 mins to the locksmith and back.

eBAY key blank I used. You get 2 for $8.63:

For those in NY, Liberty Locksmith in Liberty, N.Y. cut the keys.

Anyway, I'm all set now. One key is stashed on JL.

ebay can't find that key now. There are others, but I am not sure which one would work.... Anyone?
this is all I can find today

Thank you. ,
yes it says fiat Jeep 2016 model renegade,
and in compatibility I get this:
"This part is not compatible with 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Sport Utility 4-Door 3.6L 3604CC 220Cu. In. V6 GAS DOHC Naturally Aspirated", but you think this will work in the JL ?

@Akbill

Well, I will not put my neck out and say the blank will positively, do the deed for you. I believe it will based totally on that the description says it is in fact a 2016 Jeep Fiat High Security Emergency Key and that is what you want.

You could reach out to the seller and ask is this in fact a 2016 Jeep Fiat High Security Emergency Key

Positive thing... seller is in the USA
