I went this route because I liked what I read about it……. I can’t give you a real world review, and I hope I never can…..?

Also a gas (halogen, pricey) extinguisher, so B/C only. It's important to decide what you want one for then make sure the type you get covers that case (or those cases). For engine (etc.) fires that's perfect. I am still thinking I want a conventional dry powder for campfires and such, plus a gas type where I can grab it as I hop out for engine fires.

I'd be nervous about putting one under the hood as it can get very hot under there (plus there's almost no room under mine).

That said, I think in 40+ years I've only used my extinguisher once, and that was when a fellow camper got his old Coleman white gas lantern too close to his tent. The tent was a loss but the forest was saved. :) The rest I've seen were usually campfire situations (once a flying burning marsh mellow, and of course, sparklers...) Now I am curious and/or nervous; are engine fires common enough that everyone needs an extinguisher?

I got an extinguisher more because Jeep social convention dictates it……I haven’t personally had the need for one in 45 plus years of owning off road capable rigs…But that doesn’t mean it will never happen…… The OP wanted examples, this is mine, good or bad…… ?

That's why you carry one... so you won't need it. :fingerscrossed:

I bought an Element extinguisher to try at car fire training at the firehouse. Real car engine compartment on fire. Element 0, Car fire 1. Sticking with my dry chem. Also, I was in full gear and SCBA so I was able to get closer in than the average driver in street clothes. Loved that video of the grease fire.

I just have a kiddie-auto-dry-extinguisher. The quick release holder is awesome!

10lb A-B-C Marine First Alert on a M.O.R.E bracket... Boom, done!

Thanks for posting. I wanted to see a better pic of the 2dr version installed.

A 10lbs fits on a M.O.R.E.? Their description made me think it was for < 5lbs… like 3.25” diameter or smaller?

What I carry:
2lb ABC rated extinguisher from Target mounted to the rear roll cage with a Fishbone Offroad velcro mount. Nothing special or expensive.

Why I carry one:
Primarily because I like to cook with propane or isobutane stoves on the tailgate table. That’s fairly close to the interior, and I want to be able to put out a fire ASAP if the stove were to be knocked over or come in contact with loose clothing or something spilling out of the Jeep. Tidying the area before cooking and common sense should prevent this, but you never know. Maybe I trip over the dog while I’m holding a pan and the stove goes flying.

I also think it would be irresponsible NOT to have one when I’m cooking in forest areas, etc. I really don’t want to be THAT guy that started a forest fire while cooking my morning eggs.

Of course you CAN spend big money on a small solution like the Element, but a reliable traditional extinguisher from a reputable company is cheap enough that it’s a no brainer to bring one a trip.

10lb fits perfect. In fact, their bracket has provisions for securing 5 or 10lb extinguishers
