Sort of a reminder: Fumes from a car fire are really toxic.

There is actually a fire extinguishing product meant specifically for that sorta use case!

https://www.elidefire.com/

They sell a kit with a mount that can be hung in an engine bay. So that if you have an engine fire it sets off the ball and the ball puts out the fire.
One of the big problems with extinguishing a modern car fire is the gasoline lines are indeed plastic throughout the vehicle. The melt quickly in a fire, or break easily in an accident or are simply old and brittle. Gasoline is then free to run all over the engine bay and under the vehicle where it melts the plastic fuel tank. That's why a modern car fire is almost always fully consumed. It really is a crime that they continue to make vehicles with plastic lines. Designing for fire safety in motor vehicles is such a neglected field that it's ridiculous.

A few weeks ago I did read where a car fire started a forest fire nearby and burned about 75 acres. There was a photo included and it was a 4 door Wrangler. It was burnt to a crisp... At the time I was not aware of the manual transmission Jeeps having a problem with,,,,fire. Here is the article
