  1. Rust removal in Southern California

I did not. I haven’t searched in a while, although I really would like to. I did a lot of hard desert running recently and ended up sand blasting a good part of the rock rails. Do you have any recommendations?
  2. Fire Extinguishers

This is what I use. Comes in black and red. https://www.quadratec.com/p/fishbone-offroad/fire-extinguisher-holder/red
  3. Fire Extinguishers

What I carry: 2lb ABC rated extinguisher from Target mounted to the rear roll cage with a Fishbone Offroad velcro mount. Nothing special or expensive. Why I carry one: Primarily because I like to cook with propane or isobutane stoves on the tailgate table. That’s fairly close to the...
  4. I got handbrake wrong all these years

    Seriously wtf is this?
  5. I got handbrake wrong all these years

The parking brake in the Wrangler is two drum brakes in the rear only. There are no drum brakes/parking brakes on the front. Pulling the parking brake in this case would make the situation you’re trying to solve worse.
  6. Winter Tires on Steel Gladiator Spare Wheels (pics)

These look great. Do you have the part number for them? I think it's 04755290AA but want to make sure. I think I'd like to get these. Did you ever add any kind of center cap to cover the axle nut?
  7. Automatic vs. Manual Sales Split

    Love my 2 dr manual!
  8. How to measure the parasitic battery drain

Good point. Yeah, these are 15 months old - not brand new, not too old. The auxiliary battery holds a solid charge overnight and reads 12.7-12.8 every morning. It's fully disconnected with ignition off so that makes sense. Swapping the batteries produces the same result. What was the main...
  9. How to measure the parasitic battery drain

Hey, I welcome all questions! These are pretty complex issues to troubleshoot and there's always something to learn/unlearn/relearn. So I have one probe of the multimeter clamped directly to the battery negative terminal and the other probe clamped to the chassis ground cable. Nothing else is...
  10. How to measure the parasitic battery drain

Would love to revive this thread. I'm tearing my hair out trying to find a battery drain. TLDR: Parasitic draw overnight (every night) down to 12.0-12.2 volts. This started ~6 months ago. Prior to that 12.5-12.7 volts in the morning. Batteries are never completely flat / never any issues...
  11. California 2 door Rubicon suspension (shocks and springs only) - $200

Shocks and springs were replaced about two years ago at around 30,000 miles. They've been kept in boxes inside and I have no use for them anymore. Hoping to find them a good home! Asking $200 for them. Live in Highland Park north of DTLA and could drive a reasonable distance (preferably ≤ 1...
  12. The OEM LED light package is dangerous in snow.

I have had this exact same problem in moderate snow fall.
  13. Standard sound system -- anyone like it?

I bought a 2 door JL second hand that had the Alpine system. The subwoofer in the floor was absurd. The 2 door is more of a box shape which is just about the worst for bass reflection and I don't think Jeep really tuned the system the smaller JL - they probably just updated the form factor to...
  14. What could be causing my brand new battery to drain?

I found this TSB and thought it may be of interest. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10212300-9999.pdf I'm hunting down a slow main battery drain as well. In my experience it's not related to the ESS system/battery. I have the factory aux battery removed and am running a dual...
  15. Gullwing windows for 2 door Rubicon

I’m not sure you’d want to be removing them with any regularity. You CAN remove the glass by knocking out the pins in the hinges, but the’re not designed with that in mind. I’d worry about wearing out that connection or damaging/losing the pins. I think if you’re planning on doing lots of...
  16. Gullwing windows for 2 door Rubicon

I have the gull wing version which is most useful for when we're camping or on long trips and the Jeep is packed tightly and efficiently. I find that having the gull wings gives me better cargo access all around in that configuration since I don't have to pull out boxes/bags from the back to...
  17. Gullwing windows for 2 door Rubicon

I have driven on mild offroad trails with them open. Only if I have passengers in the back and the trail is wide and clear of branches or anything that would clip the window. Normally though, I keep them closed while on the trail.
  18. 30,000 mile service $$$$

Great point! I should have mentioned that my particular Jeep has the 6 speed manual. Fluid change is a cinch.
  19. 30,000 mile service $$$$

I was moving cross country from Michigan to California and stopped in at a dealership in Vegas to get an oil change done. Don't know why I went to the dealer...just thought at the time that they'd know more about the specifics of the vehicle and would be able to report any specific issues with...
  20. My 392 is hot. Literally.

Wondering if you could say more about your experience. Does this happen all the time? Did it always happen? I have a 3.6 JLR 6spd. Just drove Portland to Reno yesterday (about 10hrs) and started noticing the driver side floor heating up around hour 8. I have never noticed this before. I...
