Sorry, I missed the spy photo of the JM, but it does fit with the GREED/GREEN philosophy of corporate owners.

Well, not plastic, but it will be mostly fiberglass, as demonstrated by this photograph of the JM prototype that was recently secretly captured:

At least they kept the round headlights.
I think I’m in love! ?

You know, TaiMc, when I first found that photo online, totally by accident and unexpected, I was laughing so hard I was in tears! THEN I noticed the license plate, and it started all over again! That was the hardest I've laughed in a long time. I still cannot believe that anyone actually made such a thing!

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
Just got mine back from the Dealership bodyshop. There was rust on all four doors and the hood. They had already fixed the hinges in the past.

They did an excellent job. They fully painted all the doors and hood. My Jeep had been keyed in a parking lot. Some asshat keyed both passenger side doors. They told me they would fix that also for about $500. I got the Jeep back yesterday and it looks fantastic. As a bonus, they only charged me $200 to fix where both passenger doors were keyed. They did an awesome job of detailing it too.

My dealership is awesome. Zero issues getting them to do the warranty work. I just stopped in one day, made an appointment, they took some pictures. Then I dropped it off on the scheduled date and they finished it by the time they said they would and gave me a free loaner JLU sport to drive while they had my Jeep. Many dealerships could take a lesson from them on how to treat their customers.

But with the shape it will roll back onto its wheels instead of totaling out your rig. Can't wait to see the aftermarket angry grill for that one

The dealer that did mine was the same way. No issues and they even marked a couple of spots that I didn't see because they had been seeing the rot there on others as well. I had to take it in a second time because the body shop missed a couple things and the dealer took it, no questions, and sent it back to get fixed right. Both times they put me in brand new loaner/rental cars. I think I found my service dealer.

Ok, So I'm getting ready to take my 2020 JLUR in for paint bubbling around door hinges, hood hinges, windshield frame and bottom edge of hood. My question is, has anyone had theirs bubble again after the repairs or did the "repair" actually hold? I've been told by a body shop that just sanding and repainting will only cover it for a little while.

That's the question that I would really like to know as well, Onyx!

The whole matter greatly disturbs me. Is the corrosion happening due to water passing THROUGH the paint? If not, just what exactly is causing it? And what can be done to mitigate or prevent it, if anything? Or are we all doomed to an endless round of having our Jeeps repainted every three years? That is just insane!

Maybe there will be some aftermarket STEEL doors, hinges and hoods for the JLs. In fact, I'm surprised that there aren't some already.

In my opinion. It's contaminated from the factory. My best friend is an auto body technician and my other friend was a claims adjuster for Geico. They both were very detailed that some shops go as far as having a separate area. Away from any other steel cars to avoid cross contamination between steel and aluminum. Techs need to have separate tools for their aluminum jobs vs. steel jobs. They use the same tools, but steel particles can remain and contaminate the aluminum from the other tools.

I've heard that VW is extremely meticulous about their cross contamination and corrosion / rust prevention. My VW was covered in rust / corrosion inhibitors from the factory when I bought it new.

Where did you go? When I get time off work I will come back home. My hinges joined the club last week.

Just because a jeeps been repainted doesn’t mean it’s fixed. There are many reports of this continuing to happen, some as early as 6 months after the repair.
Mine returned twice, both within 16 weeks of it being returned to me. Going back January 23 for another round. ??
