I noticed it last year on the hood below the Rubicon sticker, it has now grown to all the door hinges, and 2 of the doors are starting to show corrosion in the center of the panel, this morning I noticed the windshield frame is starting to have spots of corrosion, build date June 2018 with 50k miles. Makes me sick, I custom ordored this and dumped another 12k into it. This is my 5th Jeep since 1989 and I am really thinking of getting rid of it and moving on from @JeepCares.
If it’s not noticeable I would dump that thing now. I doubt Jeep will cover since your past the 3/36 warranty. It seems like this type of corrosion is not being covered by the 5 year corrosion warranty since it’s not perforating. Sounds like you will need a lot of repaint work...what a mess.

What a mess indeed!!! I have a claim open with my dealer and the work is approved by jeep but I am sick about it, I feel that it will never look the same and it will continue to be a problem through out.

I just checked my 2018 JLRU and all hinges including the hood are showing signs of rust under the paint causing it to bobble up :(.

My first jeep, I didnt listen to people telling me that they rust and are not a quality car, and now this and also the rear defroster cable came loose, I hope the warranty takes care of this, the car has 31,000 miles.

I have a 01/2021 build and am already loosing sleep over this. Never owned a vehicle with paint issues (Honda, Mazda, BMW, Toyota, Subaru nor a 2013 JK)

How long did it take for you to be approved? I went in almost two weeks ago and it's still being reviewed. I was at 34000 miles then. Now I'm at 35,500 and I'm worried that after I get to 36k they will say I'm shit outta luck.

I went in dec 31 and was approved in a couple weeks, corrosion is covered for 100,000 but since I went in it has spread. I haven't brought it in yet to have it done because I'm still waiting on the steering gear box to arrive. I just have a gut that it will l never come out like factory.

Good info, thank you!
I will add to this though. Eventually it will corrode to the point that it gets brittle and starts to break down. Working on boats that have aluminium Doors, Window surrounds.... anything metal that isnt meant for work really. It breaks down and falls apart.

Well...I took it in to Brigham Gill Jeep Collision Center in Natick at 8am. They were still not excited about me wanting it done....
They marked the areas, and asked me to show others. I said “ I’m assuming you will be checking the whole door if a little shows on the hinges??”
The answer was, and I quote:
“Nope, you show me bubbling and that’s where I’ll fix it...but this color is the worst to match”
Not feeling the warm and fuzzies...

Make the drive, and go to another dealership. They have already shown you that they are going to be a PITA to work with.
Mine was easy to deal with. They looked at it, said they hadnt seen one like that yet. I dropped it off for some other issues, and within an hour, they called back and said the paint repair was approved.
Nlw, getting it back from the paint place they dropped it off at was another issue.

This is the dealership that my dealership sent me to because they have the body shop...I guess being a warranty thing, there are limitations.

I don’t care if they are “salty”, as long as their work is good...
Looks promising

See but this is the problem...you shouldn’t accept that and be here singing the “well it’s warranty work so there are limitations”

F That! You purchased this Jeep at a price tag that is comparable to many other vehicles, high end ones for that matter! There were and are no limitations when they put a price tag on these.....so nor should there be any or exceptions for ppls jeeps to be corroding like this at this time frame and having the problem being corrected.

More importantly this “body shop” (and I use quotations because his response to you was as Mickey Mouse as it comes) I’m in agreement with @DaltonGang....I’d take it somewhere else....ask him if the vehicles that are brought in for collision work, do they also ask the customer to point out where a repair should be done?!?
Seriously that’s some piss poor response they gave you.

If you must stay with them....then I’d say fine....but every door, hood and tailgate (just incase) and take apart each hinge and prime and paint under there. Flip the script since he CANT do his job properly and is asking you to point out where they need to repair and paint. Smh

Use his BS answer against him is my advise!
Good luck

why isn't FCA fixing all the hinges anyways? All hinges on 3 out of 4 of my doors have the bubbles showing and also my hood. So if 8 out of 12 hinges on my Jeep have rust then chances are the others are gonna be the same in a matter of time. It's their bad design, they need to be fixing everything.

Any dealership should be able to take care of the corrosion issue. If they cannot do it at their dealership, then it is incumbent on them to transport your vehicle to either a body shop or a dealership that can do the work. It isnt up to you to drive all over the place.
What I plan on doing, very soon, Is to take off all hinges and prep underneath. I might get a shop to do it before more corrosion pops up. My warranty is up in September, and I have no faith anything will be covered after that.

Unfortunately, I cannot "bulk escalate" this thread and all concerns must be considered on a case by case basis. Do know, the thread has been documented appropriately on our end and the proper internal teams are aware. That said, our team will be in private message for anyone who needs assistance.

Hey Kate,

Is there a Product Manager you're able to reach out to that you can provide this info? As a product manager for a Fortune 500 Company I'd want to see a 60+ page thread on an issue, even if I was aware of the issue. I have a 2021 Wrangler, and while I haven't had any rust yet, I'm terrified of having it happen, and a body shop trying to match Sting Gray.
