I just checked my 2018 JLRU and all hinges including the hood are showing signs of rust under the paint causing it to bobble up :(.

My first jeep, I didnt listen to people telling me that they rust and are not a quality car, and now this and also the rear defroster cable came loose, I hope the warranty takes care of this, the car has 31,000 miles.

This is likely a dumb question, so I hope someone smarter than me can answer this/set me straight.

I thought the bubbling issue was likely caused by the aluminum parts not being prepped correctly. I was also under the impression that aluminum doesn't really rust, so this *should* be more of a frustrating and expensive cosmetic issue.

So is jut the paint a problem, or is rust a major concern with this too?

youre correct, its not rust, its corrosion. steel rusts, aluminum corrodes. this will never cause a typical rust hole in a body panel, or anything like that. It will just bubble and flake the paint off and spread.

and yes its definitely a paint prep problem. theres something contaminating the metal underneath the paint, whether that be due to poor prep at assembly, or due to the fact that theres no paint in between the hinge and the door, and eventually that paint seal breaks, and shit gets in there and corrodes out to the door panels that people begin seeing
edit: or the metals in the hinge and the body panel are different and galvanic corrosion occurs. i still dont even know if the hinge and body panel are 100% the same metal makeup lol but if theyre not, they will cause corrosion upon each other eventually

Noticed mine today 40k on 2018 Sahara 3 hinges and door paint bubling. Check your windshield fold down hinges too, mine have it there as well. Great..I sense another dealer battle coming.

Took a ride to nearby dealership this morning. He says I should be covered under warranty but in order to match the color he will need to blend the fender. If they fix it right and solve the problem great. But I have a feeling my Rubicon I worked so hard for is going to look like a turd after repaint. I'm sick to my stomach over this
I'm feeling the same way..Who knows where else these spots will begin popping up, a 53k jeep, garage kept, immaculate, yet repainted..in spots. Good luck on the resale.

It's been over a week since the dealership took pics of mine and I haven't heard anything yet. I'm really close to ordering a lift kit and tires but wondering if I need to save that money to fix my bubbled up horseshit paintjob. Even if the dealership fixes it good this time, will I be fixing them again in another 30k miles? It doesn't sound like they are doing anything to prevent it from happening again.

lost for lost, try to remove the 2 screws (the paint will come off, but easy to repair with a touch-up brush) from a hinge on the door side and you will see that behind this hinge the door is not painted. this is where the corrosion starts, the humidity stays here. corroding hinges is a lack of quality in the preparation of parts before painting. like all parts ...

So no offense meant to you Kate, I am sure you are just doing your job, but my take ways from this are:
1. If you are out of basic warranty (36k) - you are probably screwed
2. Jeepcares is no more than a mouthpiece to make it seem like Jeep cares, but doesn't have the ability to really do anything to help.
Yes, exactly.
JeepCares really should be named "JeepHugs", since all they really.do is try to make you feel better.

I noticed it last year on the hood below the Rubicon sticker, it has now grown to all the door hinges, and 2 of the doors are starting to show corrosion in the center of the panel, this morning I noticed the windshield frame is starting to have spots of corrosion, build date June 2018 with 50k miles. Makes me sick, I custom ordored this and dumped another 12k into it. This is my 5th Jeep since 1989 and I am really thinking of getting rid of it and moving on from @JeepCares.

stop whining. It would be necessary to be able to confirm the origin of this corrosion. your Wrangler is from June 2018, mine is from July 2018 and I have nothing. Why ?? This is the real question: Preventive treatment with Waxoil before delivery? or regular spraying of WD40 between doors and hinges (all)? since reading this post mid 2019. or luck ... ? And why no one says anything (yet) about the tailgate
