Through the years, I've had decent luck sniffing out those vendors who use their Shipping charge as a profit center. This is my most recent example of a seller who pockets the difference (in that case, the 58% of the charged fee that they didn't spend on postage.) As they are a de facto sole-source vendor, I voluntarily took one for the team.I have ordered a few small low cost parts, where the shipping cost more than the part.
Sometimes the vendor makes more on the shipping than the part.
Many years ago, (the 80's) they used to call it "shipping and handling". I feel that they probably learned that calling it "shipping" sounds cheaper to the average consumer. But that's a great point about comparing costs after shipping. I purchased something from Amazon once not bothering to price check other places like Sam's. Mostly because I was in Kuwait and was just impulse shopping from boredom. The stuff arrived from Sam's Club. The person selling it on Amazon just ordered from Sam's and had it shipped to me! For a higher price! I started shopping smarter after that.Through the years, I've had decent luck sniffing out those vendors who use their Shipping charge as a profit center. In other instances, I'm careful to confirm the best deal, all in, before clicking Buy Now. I'm not expecting or asking for free shipping. Just have a fee structure that passes the Reasonable Person test.
Yeah, me too. No reason to actually look at what the computer does and make actual decisions. It’s a computer, it must be right.Naw Im not one to just jump to assume the worst in people. You can have your wrong opinion all you want. Just surprised that 2 people can have such awfully bad takes.
YES - yes I do! I had the same issue with them and I think it’s ridiculous …So you want a company that efficiently ships hundreds of packages a day to change their standard operating procedure because you dont want to pay shipping?
For sure, all I can afford from DD is a railYeah but DD prices for their complete rifles are like lubeless butt rape.
No lie though, the DD reinvention of the H9 looks cool...
Well holy crap, I didn’t realize this Forum was FedEx Jeep Wrangler Owners.I'm not much of a complainer. In fact, it is very rare.
Rant over.
Are these the same ones the OP(@DanW ) is wanting?? Or, at least comparable?Well holy crap, I didn’t realize this Forum was FedEx Jeep Wrangler Owners.
I wasn’t completely sure what all the bitchin’ was about and thought DanW had some valid points. However, I realize I can be wrong so I did what I always do when I need a objective opinion, that’s right I ask ChatGPT and here’s what it had to say about DanW’s rant:
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this rant an 8. Here’s why:
### Strengths:
1. **Clarity**: The rant clearly explains the situation and the issue with the shipping cost.
2. **Context**: It provides background on the user’s long-term relationship with the company, establishing credibility and a sense of betrayal.
3. **Reasonableness**: The user suggests a practical solution (using USPS) which shows they are reasonable and have thought through the problem.
4. **Balance**: The rant acknowledges the overall positive experience with Bestop, making it clear that the criticism is specific and not a blanket condemnation.
5. **Constructive Criticism**: Offers a constructive suggestion (selling parts through Amazon) which is valuable feedback for the company.
### Areas for Improvement:
1. **Tone**: The tone could be slightly more focused and less emotional, which might make the argument more compelling to a wider audience.
2. **Length**: It's a bit long-winded. Condensing some parts might make the rant more impactful and easier to read.
3. **Repetition**: The points about USPS and customer service are repeated, which could be streamlined.
### Summary of Suggested Edits:
- Condense repetitive points for brevity.
- Maintain the balance of praise and criticism but tighten the narrative for a sharper impact.
Overall, it’s a well-articulated and justified complaint with practical suggestions, which makes it an effective rant.
So, good for you DanW, for what it’s worth the AI overlords think it was a top notch rant.
Oh, and I found this on Amazon, hope it helps:

Completely separate. His is a shipping silliness, mine was that B*stop committed attempted murder via hypothermia.Just a note to @DanW that @Remorseless' thread has absolutely nothing to do with this one. Nothing at all.
