Nice spin. Read it again, but this time read for detail.

Let me help you, in case it is difficult . I don't want to pay exorbitant shipping on a very small parts kit that can fit in a small envelope.
I suggested simply putting it in an envelope and sending them via USPS, which should just cost a few bucks.

If I worked for Bestop and took this call, I would get a manilla envelope, stick these in there, address it and put it on the business office's postal machine, add it to the bill, and send it USPS. It would cost a few bucks, tops.
Maybe you need to re-read it too. TWICE you suggested they change their SOP to fit your little view of the world.

When the customer is not on the list of requirement when you design your SOP...

You clearly have never worked in shipping anything

You expect them to completely deviate from their tried-and-true approach of handling shipping? Would you then complain that your custom vanilla envelope wasn't being tracked by their computer system when it didn't show up on time? Would you be shocked that it'd still be sitting in the back seat of that person's car when they forgot that they needed to make a special trip to the post office just for you? On that person's dime?

Think about how much it would cost them to try to save you a few bucks.

You know its expensive to ship things right? And that "Free Prime shipping" on Amazon isnt actually free right? No one is raping you on shipping charges, they just shouldnt be expected to lose money on shipping, if they offer free shipping on high dollar purchases its because they have already figured in shipping costs into their profit on those orders.

Its insane the entitlement of the average consumer these days.
Entitlement? That's ridiculous to even suggest that.

$15 shipping on an $18 product that weighs a few ounces is excessive. If you think not, then that's fine. Spend your money the way you want. I offered a simple solution that would have taken a few minutes. I run a large organization and I empower people to solve simple problems all day every day. They just have to think outside the box. But this one is solvable with a procedure, too. I offered a simple solution that would have taken 10 minutes, tops, using existing resources that every office has.

It is insane that you think paying nearly 100% of the cost of the product in shipping is reasonable.

Amazon has ruined people expectations of how business should be run.

Its a wonder the country is in the state financially that it is with all the people on the internet that have so much experience running or owning such large businesses.

Yep. A simple solution. The profit margin on that product is high enough that it would be easily worth the 10 minutes it would take. Simple.

They can create a new piece to their SOP that would fit this scenario easily, if it happens often. if it does not, then it is a great opportunity for standout CS. That is something that separates the best and most consumer friendly businesses from the crowd.

You do realize that a company has SOPs for shipping, right? The company (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.) they choose to use for shipping determines the rate/price the company pays for each package shipped using them. That could be a flat rate per item or a specific cost based on weight, size, etc. A company such as Bestop has the right to either pass that exact price for shipping onto the customer, offer free shipping or add to their direct cost for shipping. Either way, customer service reps in a large, well established company are not going to go out of their way to ship an item for a single customer using a non SOP method. Sorry, but you are expecting too much.

That's the catch...you don't run this organization.
And you're probably well off...pay up.😂

I’ve encountered a few businesses that do this. Ive wondered the same thing. Theyre high volume shippers though.

Id imagine there would be a different complaint thread about how the parts were lost by usps or took forever to show up.

Priority flat rate envelope?? $10 now. It does include free insurance up to $50. After that, usps insurance isnt cheap, and good luck collecting.

Their tracking system sucks. You see when it ships and when its delivered, typically after it was already delivered/stolen. think of the demanding customer who wants to know wtf his part is. Usps says it was shipped 5 days ago. Where is it? Send me a new one OVERNIGHT! on YOUR dime! Ive dealt with this before…

The post office is way too much of a hassle for volume shippers to deal with.

And you think $15 is bad for an envelope? Ive seen places charge $30!

I know a shop that charges for the employee to package the item up and make the label etc. $50 for a small box shipped locally. You want your parts or not? No other place to go really (custom work).

Yes, everyone expects free overnight shipping now thanks to amazon. And that wont last forever im sure. Shipping costs have skyrocketed. Those $10 flat rate enevelopes were $6 and change just a few years ago. Thats a huge increase, especially from the usps. And theyre still running in the red every year.

Keep in mind, postal carriers dont have to accept your package and often wont if theyre walking. Sure its an envelope, but we have ten of them. So now someone has to jump in the car and drive to the PO. All around inefficient. thats why fedex was created.

A little more arm twisting and they for sure would of sent them carrier pigeon.
Or maybe like the local walmart who sends an employee in a personal car for same day delivery. Crazy! Bestop could dispatch an employee for personal delivery. For $10! Its called customer service!

You could start a side business making and selling them. Shipping for the cost of a stamp! Youd undercut them big time and show those greedy bastards how its done!
