Anyone have a video of 410 vs 488, and or 513 from a dig on 37ish inch tires? Only one I could find on youtube was from a interstate roll, and both were dead even on 38's. It was a Litebrite video.
I'm wondering how much of an advantage 513 has in acceleration from a dead stop. Thanks.

I don't have a video, but I can play with the math.

Below is a graph of what the tire's force on the road will look like @ WOT (3.6 & automatic). With 37s, the 4.10's first gear would have about as much thrust as if the 5.13s had a "1.5" gear.

This doesn't account for the torque converter's multiplication.

My “butt dyno”, running 37s with our daily driver at 6,700’ above sea level JLR, says don’t waste your money unless you’re going to run 40s.

You just want a video slamming on the accelerator from dead stop to 60 MPH? Let me know; I have 5.13s and 37s so I could take one when I get a chance. I presume you want the video just of the speedometer and tach?

Thanks, that actually is helpful to see the comparison.

Wonder how much the elevation is a factor? I'm at 600'. I get zero use of 7th and 8th gear on the interstate...unless I'm coasting down hill.

Really looking for a side by side 0-60 run compared to a 410 jeep. I know jeeps aren't for drag racing, but just curious how much better acceleration 2k is gonna get me?!?

Haha, I mean, I’ve always wanted a Fast and Furious Street Jeep :LOL:.

It would be a little hard to judge unless both Jeeps have similar bumper, winch, armor, roof rack, etc. set ups? I’ll be wheeling this weekend with @UNC Rubicon and I can see if he wants to drag race...

If you look closely at the (great) chart posted by @AnnDee4444 you'll see the 5.13's have more available power until about 27mph, then the 4.10 can make more power (holding first) until about 37mph where the 5.13 wins again until about 43mph where the 4.10's can make more power. And it goes back and forth until you hit 4th gear where everything is about dead even (with the 4.10's just being 1 gear lower than the 5.13's).

The TLDR is it doesn't matter after the 5.13's run out of first gear.

It's also worth noting that the 5.13's 7th gear is about equal to the 4.10's 8th gear, and I've read about gear-hunting issues for some with larger than factory tires on stock gearing (not sure if it applies to the OP's question though... just mentioning for thoroughness).

No video but I did drive a buddy's JLUR (equipped much like my JLR with same 35" KO2's, Mopar lift, steel bumpers, skids and winch) after installing 4.88's and doing a livernois tune...Compared to my JLR with stock gears (so far) and no tune (so far) you would have thought it was a V8! No, NOT the 392!!

That's what i noticed as well. Seems 513s have their pros and cons throughout the rpm band.

That's the biggest problem I have with 410 auto is the gear hunting on the interstate. I can only hit 8th downhill with the slightest pedal pressure. Rarely hits 7th, it hunts bt 4-6th on these hills in WV running 75ish. Currently mpg averages around 13.5 mixed driving. I don't really care about the mpg, but I know it could be more efficient.

If you put 5.13 on it should hunt between 5th and 8th in the same scenario. If you look at the chart you'll see 7th on 4.10 is basically identical to 8th on 5.13. So while you'll see 8th more on 5.13 it's the same as being in 7th on your 4.10's. It isn't going to make mileage any better. If anything, will be a hair worse as you no longer have the 4.10 8th (effectively 9th gear on 5.13) for the rare situations it would have been used.

For what it is worth, I definitely think it was worth the costs to do a re-gear. Driving around town is more enjoyable; a lot more acceleration when needed and as I add heavier bumpers, a winch, tire carrier, and possibly a roof rack - it will only help. Highway cruising is smoother since the Jeep is not constantly hunting for gears. If you’re wheeling very hard, consider a 4.88 so you’re not going to such a small pinion but I know I’m just sticking to the mall (and maybe a dirt/gravel road :giggle: ).

What tires & lift are you running?

Your Jeep is very similar to mine... when new the only difference would have been the painted fenders.
AEV 2.5” and BFGs on stock wheels. No leveling spacers required and handles like stock.
