New to the forum and I am sure this has been asked previously several times. Up grading to 37's on my 2021 Rubicon V6 gas, what gears should I run, daily driver weekend trails not into rock crawling. I ran 5:13's in my JK, but I know the JL motor and trans are completely different.

I'm new to 37s as of a couple months ago. I have a 3.6L/auto with 4.88s and they feel great here near sea level.

Automatic or manual?

Manual trans I would go with 5.13 no question.

For automatic it depends on a few things. For high altitude, lots of hills, or lots of towing I'd lean to 5.13. Basic driving on the flat low lands without a trailer, 4.88s are probably just fine.

I have a 6-speed with AEV bumpers, winch 4.88 gears and just added 37inch KM3s to my salta xr wheels this week. Upgraded from 35s.

Total combined weight is 112lb per corner. On road so far completely fine, holds 6th gear on the highway hills loaded down with 4 people and cargo running just shy of 2300rpm at 70.

Going to test the setup at Rausch Creek this weekend but anticipate it's going rock.

One other factor that makes this so dri able for a 6-speed is the CFII clutch.

If you are an automatic, I can't imagine needing more gear.

My 2 cents.

5.13 which will give you some room when you are elevation or loaded.

I went back and forth with this for a long time, and I just recently installed mine…... I decided on 4.88s for a little less rpm’s on the highway…. Mine is a daily driver and weekend off-roader.

I think if I was into overlanding and carried a lot of weight ( fridge, rooftop tent etc…) or pulled a camper, or planned on going up to 40s then I would’ve probably gone with 5.13s…. I don’t plan on going any taller than 38s on these axles, so that also played a part in my decision…….

I’m torn between 4.88 and 5.13. 2.0T 2 door / no backseat but live in the mountains.

I've got
5.13 which will give you some room when you are elevation or loaded.
and I would add "in windy conditions", which may be important depending on where you live.

I re-geared from 4.10 to 4.88 to 5.13. The change from 4.88 to 5.13 was due to elevation, weight (5700 empty), winds, and mountains.

None of these are your friends in a JLU and certainly not with a 3.6L under the hood.

In my experience, it comes down to how fast you drive. Personally I don't like a JL geared to low, but I tend to cruise on the freeway at 85mph and might bump it up to 95+ if I'm in a hurry or passing a line of semi's. I'd go 4.88's.

you're only talking about a 4% or so difference between the two, not a huge gap.

The only thing that would sway me one or another is availability. I ordered Dana 5.13s in November, received the fronts and install kits almost immediately, word on the rears is probably June.... 4.88s I believe are available now

Thanks all of you for your input and personal knowledge. Probably going with 4:88's.
