Again youre mad for some made up reason in your mind. The 392 Wrangler is a cash grab by Jeep full stop. It doesnt add anything other than that v8 noise and more power than is really useful in a stock wrangler. The reason its bought isnt cause its the most capable wrangler out there its bought because it sounds cool and people can say "Yup I gotta hemi". If you can afford it good for you go buy one if thats what you want, but anyone that beats the drum that the 392 is the best wrangler there is just misses what the point of what a Wrangler is.
I am not mad about anything. I found the 3.6 wrangler not a “really useful“ amount of power for me. It constantly ran at dangerously high temperatures. I no more can afford a 392 than you. It required sacrifices that I was willing to make that you are not. But what I am not doing is running down or saying any model of wrangler is better than any other. Seems you own the market in that. I accept that for what you do with your wrangler a 2.0 is sufficient. When I had a choice I made it so that I would not experience the same problems I was having with my 3.6. I opted for more power so it would not have to work as hard. I am not alone in this as I have seen respected members here trade in their wranglers.

Again show where I say the 392 is the best wrangler. I actually think the 4.0l LJ was the best wrangler. But best to me is not the same as best to you. I like my 392, that is good enough for me, doesn’t seem enough for you. It seems that running down other peoples Jeeps is what you need to do to feel good about your purchase.

My first Jeep was a 1961 CJ5 that I bought in 1974 at age 14. I've owned Jeeps ever since, with several CJs, YJs, TJs, JKs, and JLs along the way. I currently own two V8 Jeeps, a restored 1973 CJ5 with a 304 V8, and a 2022 JLUR 392 XR. Of all those Jeeps and all that time spent four wheeling, the 392 XR is the most fun to drive. Being fun to drive is important in my opinion. And a 392 is more fun than any of the 3.6 or a 2.0 Jeeps I've owned. I don't care about gas prices. Taxes are my number one expense each year, and nothing else even comes close. I pay enough in taxes that in comparison gas prices are a tiny little drop in the bucket. Besides, my 392 gets better gas mileage than my Gladiator Mojave with a 3.6.

And I actually do use my 392 off road. This year I've done Pritchet Canyon (Rated 9), Cliffhanger (8), the Rubicon Trail (8), and several other challenging trails. I've done trails as challenging as I have with any of the other Jeeps I've owned, and the 392 works well at this.

The question should be: How much fun do you want to have, and are you willing to pay for it?

Can you send me a link to the pages where it is written on what the point of a wrangler is? I was always of the belief that its another form of transportation that we each make our own. Guess I was wrong all this time.

I think what @yokramer is saying is the Wrangler is built as an extremely capable off road vehicle right off the show room floor. With minimal mods it can be made into a beast off road. While I adopt the "to each his own" mentality I can't stand mall crawlers and want nothing to do with them. The wrangler comes from the CJ which came from the Willy's which was used for pure off road use in the military. There's the lineage but at this point it's all about profit for FCA.
See here is the reasonable take that this thread needs. The Wrangler is the last bastion of go anywhere you want to go and explore the great unknown. None of that is made better by a heavy, over powered for the drive train 392. As Ive said time and again if you want it cause of the noise and rah rah V8 good for you but lets not pretend its a better Wrangler than a base Sport which will do 90% of the same stuff at <40% of the price.

Add to that, you can buy 100 better vehicles for go fast sound good than a Wrangler.

The point of a Wrangler is still based on that lineage- Jeep Universal, The Worlds Most Versatile Motor Vehicle. Capabilities including Runabout, that was low on the priority list. They were highly promoted for Tractor capability, Dad got the 3A from a farmer who got a real tractor. They gave an attempt to improve Runabout with the Tuxedo Park model but they weren’t truly on road capable until 66 and the Buick V6. I was quite pleased to give them the 392 money, which by the way was only about $5K more than an equivalent Diesel build. If you wanted a truly road friendly Jeep before the 66 you had to swap or upgrade virtually everything as I did on my 63 except the body, to both improve off-road capabilities and on road comfort, steering and handling, and haul a trailer packed with gear over the steepest grades at 65-70, let alone just achieve 65mph. It took 80 years for The Worlds Most Versatile Motor Vehicle to be nearly perfected. A Keeper- family heirloom Jeep number two.

I’ve seen plenty of off-road videos where owners of other Jeeps say the 392 can do things their former or current Jeep couldn’t.

And as most reviewers remark……

BEST WRANGLER EVER

It is but, Regrettably disagree due to opportunity missed. It’s way to big to be the best “possible”ever- the 2dr gets no love yet again . ?

No justifying here.

I simply wanted a 392 after driving one so I ordered one.

I appreciate and respect all Wranglers. I'm always amazed at how my buddies JLR on 35 KO2s can do a line at AOAA without scraping that my JLUR on 37 KM3s, pretty good lift hammers my Metalcloak skids while Im doing the 3-pedal dance.

Is this crazy? Got a rubicon x onorder but the strike….. so I was just shopping and there are some pretty good deals to be had for within 10k of my order so how many of you daily drive one? My commute is always different sometimes 0 miles sometimes 250 miles. Any of you feel wiped after your ?
commute ?is gas killing you? All thoughts welcome
And another question with the extreme 35 inch tire package do you get 456 gears and full time 4whl drive?
Hey Wanderer, I got distracted with the age old "Is a 392 worth the money" debate, and forgot to answer your question about whether or not the 392 is a good daily driver. The short answer is "Yes". The long answer would be that I've owned a number of Jeeps, and the 392 is the best driving Jeep of them all. So if the best driving Jeep of them all isn't good enough for a daily driver, you may wish to buy something other than a Jeep for a daily driver.

Right now I have a '22 Ram TRX, a '22 392, and a '23 Ram 3500 that I could use as a daily driver. The Ram 3500 really only gets used for towing an 18,000 lb 40' Toy Hauler. The TRX and the 392 were purchased within a month of each other, and right now the 392 has 3 times as many miles on it as the TRX has. The 392 is my daily drver, it is the vehicle I take everywhere. I drive it to work every day, to the grocery store, to doctors appointments, whatever. It is my go to vehicle. It works great as a daily driver and is also the vehicle I take to go four wheeling.

Yep— since getting the 392 Wrangler it is my DD with the more on road practical and comfortable GC SRT the designated Garage Queen . Comfort and practical does not trump fun and enjoyment . ?

You have touched on another improvement. In the carburetor days if you lugged it on long steep climbs they would load up and you got proficient at 3 pedals with 2 feet to clear it out. Lesson learned the hard way. ?

So glad I missed those carb days offroading. had them in my first few cars and sucked when on a hill trying to get going with a handbrake that was non existent.
