I had to laugh when I read your first sentence because you really do sound like Al Gore. I'm "eco" but since I recycle, use solar, have a prius as a second car, etc... I can buy and drive a GAS GUZZLING 392 Hemi... LOL. Just like all the eco hypocrites that fly their private jets to the climate control conferences.

Stop kidding yourself, large guy or not, eco or not... if you can afford a 392 price tag I'm guessing you aren't stressing about your gas bill. Stop kidding yourself that you are "eco" when I vehicle like this is purchased.
Yeah,

I realize the split personality. I have had a Wrangler since 1978 and part of what I always enjoyed was getting out into nature. I fought the battle about wasting resources... but as a pragmatic eco-dude; well, you can see what won. I just feel guilty and recycle more than I ever have before... I just like the engine. I am pretty much mild trails now-a-days. I guess we can justify anything!

I do like the judgment though. You remind me of my wife! I stress over most things. I guess we can justify anything if we try hard enough.

Bring it by my place, I’ll show you 245° in 2 miles from my driveway. And if you choose to stay with your foot in it, it will limp. 100% guarantee.
I have the 2.0 now but I wheeled those three 3.6 out in 100+ degrees with AC blasting here in Sand Hollow with not a problem. Fan would kick on as it should and bring temps where they should be. I'd love to know what you are doing to achieve limp mode.

no idea what you are talking about. I use my 392 more than I did a 3.6. It gets better mileage, runs cooler and is fun to drive. It is BS to say not what a wrangler is about. If the 392 was the same price as the others, there would not be anyone that saying anything. But they don’t cost the same, to me it is a pay to play thing. Not interested in any other engine option anymore in this life. as with everything in our society, if you have, do, look, buy something different than the masses it is deemed wrong or bad. My 392 gets average 19-20 On road. Has been off road 50% of its miles. It gets about the same mpg as my 3.6 off road without overheating on every trip. Willing to skip Starbucks or fast food for the rest of my life to afford it…
Amen, drop the mic level post…..it is EVERYTHING any other Wrangler is but better. Yeah, if it was the same price as a regular Rubicon, the buy rate would be 75% or more.

Except your transfer case is a ticking time bomb if you really wheel it but yea sure everything is soooo much better.

Unfortunately I have that t-case in the 2.0 but so far so good. In terms of it taking a dump you can always buy a sport t-case and pull the half off that has the chain and bolt it right up to the 4 to 1 portion of the rubi case. At least there is a relatively simple solution to get the regular style t-case.

Again this is ridiculous. 1 out of 100k wranglers “really wheel”. If you are starting with a 392 to build a buggy, that doesn’t makes a lot of sense.

if you have a 392 and are going off road regularly, you will be fine for 99.99% of 392s. Just know how it works.

t-case issues are internet overblown like many things these days.

I hope they never sell another one. Will be glad when the v8 is gone. I hope everyone is forced into a 4xe. I don’t think my 392 is awesome. Jury is still out. Time will tell, but it is not what you say it is. It is a Jeep with a v8, I have had a lot of them going back to the 70’s. And I still own 2 v8 powered Jeeps. But as I said, it is a sad thing when someone gets on the forums and talks about stuff they have no experience in. I have owned 15 Jeep/mopar/CDJR vehicles. And only 2 were awesome. My 92 XJ and my 01 2500. The rest were just vehicles that I owned. But I don’t for a second cast shade on anything I have not owned. So your 2.0 JL might be the best Jeep every made. Only time will tell. But I can tell you my 01 Ram has 350k miles on it and I put 10k on it a year. Post back when your 2.0 Jeep has that…

Again youre mad for some made up reason in your mind. The 392 Wrangler is a cash grab by Jeep full stop. It doesnt add anything other than that v8 noise and more power than is really useful in a stock wrangler. The reason its bought isnt cause its the most capable wrangler out there its bought because it sounds cool and people can say "Yup I gotta hemi". If you can afford it good for you go buy one if thats what you want, but anyone that beats the drum that the 392 is the best wrangler there is just misses what the point of what a Wrangler is.

I didn't overthink it.

My 3.6 JLUR 6-speed has been great for what I use it for, daily driving and offroading/crawling over rocks when I can.

I test drove the 392 and now have one on order through one of @Ratbert dealers for below MSRP.

the 392 will be daily driven and offroaded too.

at the end of the day ot doesn't matter what jeep ypu drive as long as you are having fun along the way.

Can you send me a link to the pages where it is written on what the point of a wrangler is? I was always of the belief that its another form of transportation that we each make our own. Guess I was wrong all this time.

I think what @yokramer is saying is the Wrangler is built as an extremely capable off road vehicle right off the show room floor. With minimal mods it can be made into a beast off road. While I adopt the "to each his own" mentality I can't stand mall crawlers and want nothing to do with them. The wrangler comes from the CJ which came from the Willy's which was used for pure off road use in the military. There's the lineage but at this point it's all about profit for FCA.
