2.0L 4cyl engine reliability issues?

Purchased a 2.0L JLUR a year ago. 24,000 miles, zero issues. Crawls fantastic, acceleration is fantastic on the interstate when I need it. There are lots of haters, but I'm still waiting for a reason to dislike it even a little.

Also, the engine has been around since 2016 and in the Jeep since 2018. We are getting to the point where it's been 6 years in production. So, I'd suspect that if there are some reliability issues, we'd hear about it by now.

I have 86,000 on my 18 with the 2.0 and have not had a single issue

Yes, the wife mocks me
Yes the neighbor kids mock me
Yes, guys ask me why I’m driving my daughter’s vehicle
Yes, my Hellcat gets better mileage
Yes it gets confused with an Eltrolux vacuum cleaner when accelerating
Yes, it has half the spark plugs and moving parts of a 392
Yes, it’s strong, reliable and compliments the Jeep
Lastly - Chicks dig it

1/4 of the plugs. The HEMI has 2 plugs per cylinder.

I miss the days when you could change your plugs without dumping half your engine out into your driveway.

I would hardly call the 3.6 bulletproof. I have a friend at work who has already had his replaced and the new one is making the famous ticking sound again. Another friend just had the whole top end of his 3.6 replaced.

Nothing is bulletproof. The 3.6 is good, not perfect. The 2.0's launch has been better than either generation of the 3.6.

When most say lag…considering the engine reaches peak torque by only 3k rpm…they likely mean the lag time between depressing the accelerator and the time the pcm/throttle bottle actually open the blade. That’s not lag. After that blade opens, it’s practically nonexistent. It’s not a big turbocharger to get considerable lag.

Absolutely not the fact that 0.5l cylinder displacement is the most efficient way of producing engines today.

Engines under 2 liters have tax advantages in many countries. Building engines in 0.5 liter increments helps parts sharing.

Stellantis uses this engine (in different tunes) in their Alfa Romeos and Maseratis,

They actually have a different head with MultiAir (fancy VVT)

"LCA/Stellantis eventually sent a senior engineer out to look at it, and he, the service foreman and I spent hours climbing through the engine to determine what caused the fire. We quickly ruled out the gas leak issue, and finally agreed that it was likely something in the wiring harness, but we couldn't determine exactly what. He agreed that it was a manufacturing issue and immediately notified his HQ that they needed to buy it back"​

I like the 2.0 in mine, I’ve owned many different engine configs in different vehicles. This seems like a good match. I can live without obnoxious exhaust and living in a state with practically no trail access it’s important to tread lightly and quietly.

How about the wimpy noise at low speeds? Lol. Just got my 2.0 and good lord I gotta get used to the electric weed eater sound
