Hey everyone, im looking too maybe upgrade from 35s to 37s on my 21 wrangler high altitude 3.6, i have a 2.5 lift in it currently with the factory 20inch wheels and 1.5 inch spacers. Space wise it appears that the 37s will fit however I've seen some comments regarding the need for a regear to run the 37s and that the 3.6 would struggle. im not sure if thats accurate info or necessary too regear

It would be highly advised to regear or axle swap to run 37s on a Sahara. It'll literally go, but it wont be pleasant. I personally found axles out of a 392 with 4.56 gears and swapped those in.

If it feels ok with the 35s, moving to 37s will not feel that much different. That said, and as mentioned above, going to a numerically higher ratio will be an improvement. If you do it, I would recommend 4.88. As far as 37s on a Sahara with a 2.5" lift, it will be fine for street driving but will probably rub at full flex on a trail.

I have the factory 4.56 gears with the auto trans and some true to size 37s and the gearing is good enough that I’m not willing to switch it. You’ll have to decide if you are willing to tolerate the 3.73 gearing for your actual use case. You don’t say how the vehicle is actually used, but 4.88s and 17 inch wheels if you do any actual offroading is good advice.

Try the 37s and see how you like it. Worst case, regear it. I would keep your axles since you basically have rubicon axles. Just need a regear maybe.

And if you want lockers, throw those in while youre in there. At least a rear locker, or a truetrac

Its more if a pavement princess , 10mile commuter occasional 150mile round trip vehicle. Is the change in gearing to keep the jeep more in the power and drivable or?

Yes it will be outside of its optimal power band, so the engine works harder, the Jeep feels more sluggish and you get worse gas mileage. Just as a loose example, if a Jeep from the factory is on 33s and has 3.73 gearing, going to 37s would make the effective gearing closer to 3.33.

As @Sportacus said, try it.

My pavement princess with 37s and 4.88s. While my commute is a bit further than yours I couldn’t imagine tolerating 3.73s. Is there anyone around you with a similar setup that you could drive to see how it actually feels and responds?

Add two Loonies per liter with that setup. Very poor choice. I had 3.45s with 35's and it really sucked after a few months. Went with 4.88s and it was great. Could have used 4.56 but I have room for the mountains.

Keep the 35's, you live in Ontario and are not permitted to get any use from 37's.
