What is your average usage or is there an average? I’m getting over 3000 miles to a box. Seems to last forever. 26000 miles on my 2021 JLURD. Cleaned the def injector once. Wasn’t too bad. Thanks

It’s very subjective on your driving habits. If you idle a lot or tow you’ll burn a lot more vs highway miles.

Have you considered filling up at a truck stop instead of buying it by the box? It's a hell of a lot cheaper and, IMO, significantly easier to deal with.

The harder you work the engine the more DEF you use. If I head up the pass on I70 I burn a lot more than just driving around Denver.

Have you considered filling up at a truck stop instead of buying it by the box? It's a hell of a lot cheaper and, IMO, significantly easier to deal with.

I actually noticed that I get less distance between fill ups when I stop at a pump vs just buying a box. I get around 1000 miles per gallon on the box, and roughly 700 miles per gallon from the pump. Costco and Sam’s sell the boxes fairly cheap vs local parts stores so I grab a couple spares while I’m there.

Seems very slow in the 3.5 years of owning it. I use the boxes (blue DEF only - see DEF head below) and have a cheap harbor freight electric tube pump that works great. When I fill up my motorhome I top off the jeep. Neither the jeep or the giant cummins seems to be burning too much DEF - all in all can't complain - replacing the DEF head on the MH was 2K bucks so there's that!

I’m filling up at the pumps regardless of how many miles I get out of it due to freshness.

I’m not risking a box unless I have to. I’m only filling up 2x or so a year and I drive over 15k a year.

I’ve posted this a few times on the forums, but the info doesn’t seem to be well understood. DEF use is based off of diesel use, as it should be roughly 2-3% of your diesel use. I’ve owned 3 diesels (2 Cummins, 1 EcoDiesel) in the past 10 years and all of them used diesel at a rate of 2.6-2.8%. So if you are towing, driving high speeds, in 4Lo, etc, any reason to use more fuel/get worse MPG…….you will use more DEF as you use more diesel. The only way to tell if your rig is using too much is to actually calculate it out. Keep very good MPG records and how many gallons of DEF you are using.

i go months at a time between adding DEF.
averaging ~12K miles/year, but J**p typically runs for at least an hour at a time when it’s used, and is fed a mixture of PetroD and BioFuels.
