Akronz,
You can change the orientation of the wiring coming out of the cover, but it's a bit of a process. First, you'd need to remove the winch from the bumper. Then, look underneath the top cover and remove the four Allen head bolts. This will give you access to the bottom of the control plate, and you'll need to remove four Phillips screws to get the plastic cover off, and get access to the nuts that hold the cables on. Orient them as needed, and then re-assemble.

Terpsmandan,
Yes, those covers are nice, and they are also good for protecting synthetic rope from UV deterioration. In my particular bumper, there's no way to get that cover on the winch. My winch is tightly buried in the bumper.

Do you have the stock steel bumper? I thought about something to protect it all, I just don't know how it would all fit.
I have the steel bumper but live in AZ so rust is low on the list of concerns. Just dirt…

Smitty XRC. Second one I’ve owned. First one was on the JK and went through 4 WNY winters with no rust.

So, my cabling seems to come straight out of the back of the winch housing, others look like they were able to just to point that down or am I looking at it wrong. I plan to spend a few sweaty minutes on this tonight or tomorrow and pop the grill off but just wanted to check in with the group ...

I use some "tech flex" from Amazon that's a much better looking version of the corrugated split loom that's been used over the years. When I put the Evo 10S in my wife's Motobilt Crusher series bumper I wrapped the wires and tucked them under the grill and up to the battery.

Excerpt From my build thread. Warn VR10 on Motobilt Crusher bumper.
Top down view. Plenty of room to work around the winch

Winch cables. the power cable comes with a pretty nice sheath/ loom on it. I wish they did this for both.

Routing the cables. I unbolted the bolt on the inner fender and ran both cables up between the inner fender, frame, and grille. As soon as they were completely pulled up, I used my work light to check clearances and make sure they weren't rubbing on anything, as that could eventually cause a short in the power cable and damage to the winch, or a fire.

The cables, pulled up and attached to the battery.

I took some old water heater foam insulation (used on my last winch) and wrapped it around the wires. Pulled it up and zip tied it in place, to protect them from abraision. Then Bolted the inner fender back in place. It all fit pretty well. I was surprised.

Finished product. You can see my little guy in the passenger seat shouting "Dada jeep got winch" and making winch noises.

I zip tied the cable in place using the air box brace.

Pulled down a bit tighter after this, but it's mostly behind the winch, in front of the grille
