Woof! Meanwhile, if anyone dares mention buying cheap ebay parts they get ridden into the ground.
I've never heard of Roam prior to getting into the JL world (of course I skipped Jk, going from TJ/LJ to JL). This company is promoted heavily in the JL community. I'd agree they should do something to get behind their product.

I am lucky to live where road salt and water period is almost non-existent. I would reach out to them for thoughts on the issue going forward. They were great to work with on my end, but I didn't have any issues and haven't as mine are only 4mos old.

Sorry to hear about the trouble... good to see opinions and actual daily use on product over time and outcomes. Hopefully your restoration holds up for you

Roam should step up and be accountable for this rust issue especially inside 1 year. Whether they fixed the powdercoat process or not they clearly lack integrity and accountability.

I installed quick disconnect Ranch Swaybar links and after a couple months they were rusty, I called and emailed Rancho, and not only did they replace them they actually paid 4WP to remove the old and install the new. They had a similar issue they missed the corrosion resistence proces which caused them to rust Rancho identified it and they stand accountable.

i was seriously considering the Roam rear bumper but now no way...

ROAM has stepped up a little. They are refunding $80 (their claimed cost of the powdercoating) for rust issues on their side steps. I think they know in reality that even if they replaced the steps, the new ones will eventually meet the same fate when used in salt/brine environments. No powdercoated steel that I know of can withstand it over time. Even though I had a feeling this might happen, I ordered anyway and am mostly pissed at myself for doing so. I'll just keep touching up the visible areas with the recommended AEV textured paint until they can't be anymore. They're still the best looking steps out there for the JL.

My ROAM side steps are doing exactly the same thing. Less than a year old. They've NOT stepped up for me. Multiple emails to Anthony and no response at all. Avoid their products.

Yes salt/brine is hard on powdercoat. It's used where I live but to use that as an excuse for something not lasting 8 months for that kinda rust is a complete joke. If it was scratched or compromised in anyway like used to slide over a rock that's one thing. These just flat out rusted out.

It simply boils down to improper prep before coating. I prefer to recieve raw and pay to have mine properly painted locally or I just rattle can them for easier touch ups.

They seem to make some neat stuff but I wouldn't consider them for anything at this point.

It sad it only took 8 months before you had to restore them but it looks like you did a good job!

Roam has been awfully quiet here on the forum in the last few weeks/months. For awhile it seemed liked they were pretty responsive to people's concerns and feedback, but it seems like a lot of emails and tags may have fallen on deaf ears. I remember reading somewhere here that they are more or less a startup and were/are going through some growing pains. Especially since their manufacturer is located in Wyoming while they are located in Texas. They seem to be posting a lot on Instagram, would be nice if they could chime in here occasionally.

I live in Ohio. They put anything and everything on the roads in the winter. Salt, brine, cranberry juice, cinder, sand, etc.
I've seen every brand of steps, sliders and tubes rust and/or peel.
For this reason I bought aluminum step sliders from Nfab. Been through one Ohio winter with no issues. (so far)

Live in the rust belt. I like the style of them but passed after seeing some other pictures of rusted Roam products. Hopefully they improve the coatings in the future. Maybe a zinc undercoating or something? In fairness I recall reading a suggestion on their site recommending one of their other products if the components are going to be used where salt is used.

when I first started looking at steps, I really liked Roam the best. However, after reading numerous complaints on them, I decided that it wasn't worth the risk. As Jeep purchasers, we are pretty accustomed to some disappointments, but even we have our limits.

Hopefully they can get it together. They do have some interesting stuff and I'd like to see them solve this keep at it.

Ohio chiming in too. I bought some TAC side steps from Amazon (less than $150) and I've had no issues with rust after this winter. They were coated well and packaged well. Even my UPS guy waited to see me open them because he was curious what they looked like.

Even better for me, since I bought new in box Roam steps that had never been installed from a guy on jkwranglerforum, I get no warranty at all from Roam. That’s really great with a known problem and Roam having changed their powder coat because of this known problem.

I had mine Line-X’d but I suspect I’ll still need to spray the inside on occasion to cover up rust since they were very rusty within 3 months of mounting them.

How much did it cost to have them Line-x’d?
