Yup and as usual, with my last 25 years of supplemental tailgate/spare weight support-----the tailgate always works, because the SPARE TIRE SUPPORT IS ALWAYS set at an angle(wedge) to ease the tailgate closure and also provide a minor lift to the tailgate upon closure-

Simple logic !

Yes but you still have to open and close said tailgate.

As many of you know from your structures classes... its all about loads and cycles... assuming one is using a jeep for slow wheeling (< dynamic loads) as designed vs high speed desert romping (> dynamic loads) ie. Jeep is not a Raptor, we should be fine.

And Most major companies use a 4X safety factor on stress calcs and Jeep design the tailgate for 33" BFG's and the reinforcement kit for 35".

Assuming we can limit the loads and cycles, time will be on our side.

I do like the "idea" of a bumper mount, but I don't like the additional weight, so like all things its a trade.

Thanks to all for their thoughts on this topic..

I really appreciated the video, he even talked about the CB antenna mount and troubles.. I am using the factory Mopar mount hole (.500 x .600) with a separate ground strap to ensure low SWR values.

@plex

I just installed this and my door does the same thing when I open it with the tire on. I used the shims and tape across the gaps during the install and nothing appeared to have moved. It opens and shuts fine with the tire off but sags 1/4 inch or so when I open with the tire on. I adjusted the four hing screws and made it a little better but I need an extra set of hands to adjust it more. Just curious if you ever got yours working satisfactorily?

My tire+wheel is 94 pounds plus I have a relocation bracket installed.

I think you need to use a pry bar to move it upward when adjust the screws. Also, don't over tighten these screws, it is very easy to strip them.

Agreed... I did the same, in fact I preloaded mine ~ 1/16" above the line... And then I added a military hitch.. this allowed the tire to rest on the hitch when closed vs the hinges.. but keep in mind I am running 37: creepy crawlers (m8090), so it worked pretty well.. I am sure each tire - rim combo will need something a little different.

Got mine factory installed. Added the relocation bracket and third brake light kit yesterday along with my 35s. Works well thus far. I want to do an aftermarket rear bumper at some point but the one I want (LoD) is too $$$ for now
